The pared-down new schedule from The CW has also paired compatible shows on four of its five nights.
The network will program Monday through Friday in the fall, leaving Sunday nights to its affiliates for their own purposes. (It has not programmed Saturdays.)
An attempt to rent out Sundays to another programmer quickly failed, and now The CW has just given up on the night. That's one more sign of the belt-tightening in broadcasting.
The CW is offering a series of close matches on most nights: young-adult soaps Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill on Mondays; 90210 and a new version of its spinoff Melrose Place on Tuesday; American's Next Top Model with fashion-themed drama The Beautiful Life on Wednesday, and Supernatural with new thriller The Vampire Diaries on Thursday.
Friday is the lone oddity, with Smallville leading into Top Model reruns.
As part of the overhaul, The CW's cast-offs included Reaper, Privileged, The Game and Everybody Hates Chris. Reaper may continue in syndication, but one of its stars, Tyler Labine, has signed with a new series on another network.
And, on another casting note, The CW's fall announcement did not mention any cast members of One Tree Hill while listing performers on other shows. At the very least, stars Chad Michael Murray and Hilarie Burton have left the series, and more changes are expected.
The CW will have three new dramas in the fall:
• Melrose Place. Just as 90210 reconfigured the old Beverly Hills, 90210, so the new Melrose builds on the old one. The young stars live in an apartment building and Sydney (Laura Leighton) from the original show is the landlady; Sydney has also had an affair with the son of old Melroser Michael Mancini (Thomas Calabro). The new stars include Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.
• The Beautiful Life. The O.C.'s Mischa Barton is a ''reigning supermodel,'' and Elle Macpherson plays a ''former supermodel'' in this drama. But the show's center is two teens in the modeling game, a hot new runway star played by Sara Paxton (Last House on the Left) and a new-and-at-the-bottom model played by Benjamin Hollingsworth (The Line). The cast also includes Corbin Bleu.
• The Vampire Diaries. Based on the books by L.J. Smith, the show involves a 17-year-old girl (Nina Dobrev, DeGrassi: The Next Generation) drawn to two brothers (Paul Wesley of Army Wives, Ian Somerhalder of Lost). But the brothers are also vampires.
The CW also announced one midseason show: Parental Discretion Advised, with a foster child seeking emancipated-minor status; the legal journey leads her to her biological parents. A CW executive called it both a drama and ''heartwarming and humorous.''

The Hollywood Reporter http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/cont....c0f60c8af5aed4f says talks still ON for Reaper Season Three for syndication Sundays; write your CW local affiliate and ABC Studios, tell them there's a fanbase for REAPER. We’re hearing back from the affiliates that they are considering the deal; apparently some are worrying about Tyler leaving, so reassure them that we’d still watch the show without him.
