Looking for fireworks, parades or other Fourth of July holiday events? Here's what's happening in the area:
Through Saturday
Akron — The Rib, White and Blue Festival, Main Street between Bowery and State streets and Lock 3 Live, next to Civic Theatre. Concerts, kiddie rides, inflatables and food concessions, including barbecue vendors. Free admission all day today and before 1 p.m. Saturday, $5 after 1 p.m. Hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Free parking available in all city-owned lots.
Today's concerts: The Juke Hounds at 7 p.m. and Satisfaction, a Rolling Stones Experience at 8:30 p.m. Saturday concerts: University of Akron Steel Drum Band at 2:30 p.m., Mo' Mojo at 4:30 p.m. and Rebirth Brass Band, New Orleans at 7:30.
Orrville — Carnival Midway with rides, games and food at Orr Park, noon to 11 p.m. today and Saturday. ASA Girls 14-or-younger Fast Pitch Softball Tournament through Saturday. Free bicycle giveaway at 9 p.m. today. Five girls and five boys will win mountain bikes. Free tickets available to ages 12 or younger at firefighters' tent each night of carnival. Firecracker 5K Run/one-mile Fun Run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. 3-on-3 basketball tournament starts at 9 a.m. Saturday. Concert at the carnival with 21 South at 8 p.m. in the midway. Fireworks at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday.
Today
Brunswick — Patriot Party at the Recreation Center, 3637 Center Road. 5 to 10 p.m., admission free. Visitors can use fitness center, gymnasium, track or pool. Hot dog sale by the Brunswick Optimist Club and an ice cream social sponsored by the Brunswick High School Band Boosters from 7 to 9 p.m. Concert by the Brunswick Community Band at 7 p.m. on the outdoor stage (weather permitting, indoors if not) and the fireworks display at 10 p.m. on the high school grounds.
Hudson — Fireworks at Barlow Hill Farm, 9:30 p.m. Rain date is Sunday.
Mantua — Green Family Funeral Home will present a free outdoor concert with Compass Rose at 7 p.m., at state Route 44 and Pioneer Trail, north of Mantua and south of state Route 82. Simulcast live at http://www.greenfamilyfuneralhome.com. Bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, it will be at Mantua Knights of Columbus Hall, 11845 State Route 44.
Medina — Fireworks Festival at Medina Community Recreation Center, 855 Weymouth Road, 4 to 10 p.m. Carnival games, food, inflatables, pony rides and more. Fireworks at dusk on Medina High School grounds.
Wadsworth — Fireworks at dusk at Memorial Park on Grandview Avenue.
Saturday
Akron — Celebration at Martin Luther King Jr. Freeway (Cascade Plaza exit) with Soul'd Out at 7:30 p.m. Fireworks at 9:45 p.m., synchronized to music. WKDD (98.1-FM) will broadcast from 9 to 11 p.m. Rain date is Sunday.
Akron's Castle Park neighborhood — Parade at 10:30 a.m. on Castle Boulevard starting at Dartmouth Avenue. Castle will be closed to traffic from Dartmouth to Garman Road from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration 10 to 10:25 a.m., fee is 50 cents. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and military veterans invited to march. Prizes for most patriotically creative bikes and tricycles, wagons and strollers, walkers and in-line skaters, best-dressed pet.
Alliance — Festival at Silver Park on South Union Avenue, 4:30 p.m. to dusk. The American Revolution and Sept. 11, 2001, will be represented by two organizations. The 5th Virginia Regiment will demonstrate weapons and skills used during the Revolutionary War. A group called ''93 Cents for Flight 93'' will present videos and information about the National Flight 93 Memorial to be built near Shanksville, Pa. Two New York firetrucks will be present. Also, there will be Youth Olympics for ages 6-11 at 4:30 p.m. A jump house, scavenger hunt and face painting will be available. Rock band Cherry Red will perform at 5:30 p.m. Carnation queen contestants introduced at 7:15 p.m. The Brass Band of the Western Reserve will play patriotic music at 8 p.m., after it joins with the 5th Virginia Regiment to conduct a flag presentation and play the national anthem. Fireworks at dusk.
Aurora — 5K and Fun Run, Bicentennial Park, state Route 43 and East Pioneer Trail, at 8 a.m. (registration at 7 a.m.). Parade at 11 a.m. from Heinen's parking lot on East Garfield Road to Aurora High School on West Pioneer Trail. Old-Fashioned Festival, noon to 4 p.m., at Kiwanis Moore Park on West Pioneer Trail.
Chippewa Lake — Parade starts at 1 p.m. at Gloria Glens Town Hall on Lake Road and ends at Lions Park. Water ski show at 5:30 p.m. at Chippewa Lake Beach.
Fairlawn — Parade steps off at 6:30 p.m. at Fairlawn Town Centre on West Market Street and marches west to Dillard's parking lot at Summit Mall. Awards for floats, marching units, bands and novelty units.
Fredericksburg — Parade at 11 a.m. Ballgames and food concessions will follow at the park.
Hiram — Picnic at Municipal Building from noon to 1:30 p.m. Parade at 1:30 p.m. marches north on Hayden and Dean streets, left on Hisdale Street, south to Peckham Avenue, down state Route 82 to Hiram Christian Church. Community Band outdoor concert of patriotic songs at 4 p.m. Ice cream social and big band dance with Garrettones from 8 to 11 p.m.
Kent — Heritage Festival downtown from 9 a.m. to midnight. Fireworks downtown at 10 p.m. Historic train rides, Ducks over the Falls, live music and entertainment all day on three stages, 5K and 10K races and one-mile fun run, children's play area, food and craft booths, local displays.
Massillon — Picnic in the Park activities at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium Park. Little Miss Liberty and Little Uncle Sam at 11 a.m., with musical selections by Lincoln Ladies; cultural dancing with elementary students, noon to 1 p.m.; St. James A.M.E. Church Choir, 1 to 2 p.m.; James and Sylvia Kalal on banjo and guitar, 2 to 4 p.m.; teen bands Aftershock and Astrovan, 4 to 6 p.m.; Michael Sonata: Frank Sinatra tribute, 6 to 8 p.m.; and ReUNITED, 8 to 10 p.m. Fireworks will follow.
Medina — Annual Twin Sizzler Races from 6 to 11:30 a.m. including a 5K Run, a 10K Run and a one-mile Fun Run. All events start and finish at the Square in downtown Medina. Refreshments and entertainment. Pancake breakfast at Medina United Methodist Church, 8 to 11:30 a.m.
Medina — Parade at 6 p.m. at Medina Public Square. Kiwanis Ice Cream Social from 6 to 9 p.m. in the square. Medina Community Band concert at 8:30 p.m. at Uptown Park Gazebo.
North Canton — YMCA two-mile race at 8:10 a.m. and five-mile race at 8:30 a.m., starting at North Main Street in front of the Hoover Co. and ending on East Maple Street at Bitzer Park. Parade at 10:30 a.m. from Hoover High School stadium parking lot on Seventh Street. Fireworks at dusk at Dogwood Park.
Reminderville — Parade starts at 11 a.m. at Village Hall parking lot, with fun and games following at Aurora Shores Marina at noon.
Spencer — Parade at 1 p.m. from the police station to Firestone Park. Carnival at 3 p.m. at Firestone Park on state Route 301. Fireworks at 10 p.m.
Stow — Pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at First Christian Church, 3493 Darrow Road. Firecracker Run at 7:30 a.m., with 3K fun run and four-mile run from Holy Family School. Parade steps off at Stow-Kent Retirement Village on Kent Road at 10 a.m., ending at Holy Family School, 3163 Kent Road. For information about the run, call 330-689-5100.
Valley City — Parade lines up at 10 a.m., begins at 11 a.m. from the depot on Center Road and ends at Mill Stream Park with dedication of the Liverpool historical marker. Antique and classic vehicle show at the park. Fireworks at dusk.
Wadsworth — Community band concert at 7 p.m. at Central Intermediate School lawn, 151 Main St.
Wooster — Food vendors, disc jockey and other activities starting at 4 p.m. at Kinney Field at Burbank and Oldman roads. Fireworks about 10 p.m. at Kinney Field.
Sunday
Akron — Akron Symphony at Lock 3 Park at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 6 p.m. Free.
Aurora — Family activities begin at 6 p.m. at Sunny Lake Park. Fireworks about 9:45 p.m.
Portage Lakes — The 34th annual boat parade at 1 p.m., starting at Leighton's Boat House on East Reservoir and ending at Portage Lakes State Park Beach. Sand-castle-building contest will be at Portage Lakes State Park from noon to 2 p.m. Open to all ages, up to six people per group with a maximum of three adults per group. Fireworks at 10 p.m. from Mason's Point on Turkeyfoot Lake. Rain date is Monday. Clear Channel 106.9 FM will simulcast music to the fireworks.
Stow — Red, White & Blue Kite Fly from 1 to 5 p.m. Patriotic kites will be flown at Silver Springs Park off Young Road. Kite making workshop at 1 p.m., $3.
