Friday Night Lights Get your game face on for the return of this critically adored, but largely ignored, small-town football drama. The fourth season brings some major changes for Coach Eric Taylor (Kyle Chandler), who was rudely ousted from his post at Dillon High School. Now he must pick himself up and start a new program from scratch at a crosstown campus. Meanwhile, his wife, Tami (Connie Britton), remains as principal at Dillon, where she struggles to find a way to work with the people who back-stabbed her man. Talk about divided loyalties. 9 p.m. Wednesday, DirecTV. Read Rich Heldenfels' take on the show in today's Channels guide to television.
Other bets
Tonight: Why can't we all just get along? On Desperate Housewives, Susan and Katherine continue to fight over Mike, and now it's getting physical. Just don't mess with the hair. 9 p.m., ABC.
Tonight: On Dexter, Rita discovers one of her husband's secrets and starts to question how much she really knows about her mysterious man. To which we ask: Where has she been all this time? 9 p.m., Showtime.
Monday: On the ever-intriguing Lie to Me, an old friend (Lennie James) of Cal's resurfaces and attempts to pull him into a criminal conspiracy. With friends like that . . . 9 p.m., Fox.
Tuesday: Maybe tonight will be the night. Maybe Linus will finally meet the heroic Halloween gourd he has long awaited in It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Then again, maybe not. 8 p.m., ABC. Re-airs at the same time Wednesday.
Tuesday: For the first time this season, the Top 20 contestants strut their stuff on So You Think You Can Dance, and it's going to take two full hours to get all the action in. 8 p.m., Fox.
Wednesday: On America's Next Top Model, Tyra sends the girls off to Hawaii. Must be time to work on their tans. 8 p.m., The CW.
Thursday: There's no Halloween treat for the guys on Supernatural. They get involved with a witch who is running a high-stakes poker game. Lose and you'll find yourself aging very rapidly. 9 p.m., The CW.
Thursday: Even The Mentalist is getting into the Halloween spirit as Jane and the gang investigate the death of a man who witnesses say was killed by a ghost haunting his mansion. 10 p.m., CBS.
Friday: Oh so creepy: On Ghost Whisperer, the Headless Horseman from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is haunting Melinda. Then she freaks out when the book mysteriously shows up at her son's school. 8 p.m., CBS.
Friday: How cool is this? On Medium, Allison has vivid nightmares that insert her into scenes from the classic horror film, Night of the Living Dead. OK, well, maybe that's not so cool for Allison. 9 p.m., CBS.
Saturday: Fear Fest '09 celebrates the scariest day of the year with a marathon of frightening flicks, including Halloween, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and more. 7:30 a.m., AMC (Check listings for lineup and times).
