TV exercise personality Paige Palmer didn't let age stop her

By Beacon Journal staff

Akron native Paige Palmer, who died Saturday at age 93, knew how to make an impression, and never let age get in the way.

In her teens she was running her own dance studio. In her nineties, she was still showing up at local events.

More formally Paige Palmer-Ashbaugh, and originally Dorothy Rohrer before she took on a ''fashion-sounding name,'' Palmer had a life which included a TV exercise show that ran more than a quarter of a century, a syndicated newspaper column, a line of fitness equipment, books and an assertiveness and eye-popping presence that stayed with people long after Palmer had left a room.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced later. The family has requested that donations be made to the local SPCA in her name.

ABJ, is this all you have to say about on of Akron's best known media personalities? The PD was on the ball two days ago with a very inclusive obit. How sad you have nothing more to say about her.

Great gal. I was on her TV show once as her "guinea pig".

I was only 5 or 6. She used me as the example to show her audience how to do certain exercises because I was so small and flexible.

She couldn't have been nicer or more full of energy.

Rest In Peace, Paige.

You were as synonymous with Channel 5 as Dorothy Fuldheim and Captain Penny. And no doubt in much better shape!

When local television was king.

My aunt and uncle lived a couple of houses away from her. I saw her a couple of times when she was in her 50's. Still a very nice looking women that turned heads. She had a great life in Cleveland and Akron.

She was very much ahead of her time! Way to go, Paige!

Shocking lack of respect for a local legend who did so much to further women's opportunities in media and business. Terrible job, ABJ. I know you are down to the bare bones with staff and all, but this is a terrible slight to an amazing woman.
