Harry Rules the World. The movie world, anyway. Warner Bros. says the five Harry Potter movies have now grossed about $4.47 billion worldwide, making Potter the most lucrative franchise in movie history.
Potter now leads both the 22 James Bond movies to date (although more Bond films are expected), as well as the six Star Wars films, according to Warner Bros. But those franchises still outpace Potter in North American revenues, according to Box Office Mojo (http://www.boxofficemojo.com).
On the other hand, Order of the Phoenix is still making money, and there are two more Potter movies to come.
Warner Bros. says the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will premiere on Nov. 21, 2008, and the seventh, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is planned for 2010.
Rosie Rips Baba. In her upcoming book, Rosie O'Donnell says her former View boss Barbara Walters should hang it up, the New York Post reports.
''At some point, a person gets tired. It's inevitable,'' the Post quotes from O'Donnell's book, Celebrity Detox. ''Barbara Walters is almost twice my age . . . at some point it becomes necessary to step back. Everyone has to go. Going is part of the gig.''
O'Donnell who, the Post says, is 45 to Walters' claimed 77 certainly made Walters look old and tired when she joined ABC's gabfest. But O'Donnell also knows a lot about going; she lasted less than a year on The View.
Wyman Tribute. Turner Classic Movies will show eight movies starring Oscar winner Jane Wyman on Friday. Wyman, also known for starring in Falcon Crest and as the first wife of Ronald Reagan, died Monday at the age of 93.
The movies are Johnny Belinda (11:15 a.m.), for which she won the Oscar for best actress, and The Lost Weekend (7:45 a.m.), a best-picture Oscar winner starring Ray Milland.
Also: The Doughgirls (6 a.m.), Cheyenne (9:30 a.m.), The Lady Takes a Sailor (1 p.m.), A Kiss in the Dark (2:45 p.m.), Here Comes the Groom (4:15 p.m.) and Let's Do It Again (6:15 p.m.).
More VMA Fallout. And not about Britney Spears. Rather, it's that Tommy Lee has regretted his fight at the ceremonies with Kid Rock, who like Lee is an ex-husband of Pamela Anderson.
On his Web site (http://www.tommylee.tv), the musician apologized to MTV, to George Maloof, owner of the Palms Casino, where the VMAs were held, and Alicia Keys, who was performing when Lee and Kid got into it.
''I had nothing to do with the timing and disrespect,'' Lee told Keys via his Web note. He says Kid threw the first punch and not much of one.
Stefani Back? Look for an announcement today that Stefani Schaefer is rejoining WJW (Channel 8) as part of the morning team later this month. Schaefer was last seen in the area at WEWS (Channel 5) a year ago, before heading off to Florida to co-host iVillage Live, a series for NBC-owned stations and syndication.
GH DUI. TMZ (http://www.tmz.com) reports that Kirsten Storms, of General Hospital and Kim Possible fame, has been charged with DUI.
The site says she ''was traveling on a Los Angeles freeway when a (California Highway Patrol) officer noticed a lit cigarette being thrown from her blue Mercedes. According to the police report, officers 'noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from the vehicle.' After several sobriety tests, she was arrested for DUI.''
She was released on $5,000 bail, says TMZ.
Griffin Cut. E!'s telecast of the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday night will trim the acceptance speech by Kathy Griffin, the Associated Press says.
Her Life on the D-List series for Bravo won the outstanding reality program Emmy (one of several nonfiction/reality Emmy categories) at the taped-in-advance ceremony. It precedes the big prime-time Emmy show, which airs Sunday night on Fox.
''A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award,'' Griffin said. ''I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus.''
More Griffin. She had some other things, but we're better off stopping now. And the television academy told AP that Griffin's ''offensive remarks'' will not air, so you'll just have to find the rest online.
Then the academy got back to other business. Like figuring out what to do about Saturday Night Live's ''box'' song.
Yes, that one by, among others, Andy Samberg and Justin Timberlake. It won an Emmy for outstanding original music and lyrics.
They Weren't Pulling His Leg. Yes, the Ohio State-Michigan rivalry is intense. But consider also this AP report about a Texas fan who in June walked into an Oklahoma stronghold wearing a Longhorns shirt.
The fan said that, when he decided to leave the bar, a patron ''grabbed him in the crotch, pulled him to the ground and wouldn't let go, even as bar patrons tried to break it up.''
When they finally were separated, the Texan saw that ''both of his testicles (were) hanging on the outside of his body,'' the AP said. It took 60 stitches to repair the damage.
The case is working its way through the courts, with disagreement over who started the fight.
As far as I can tell, neither man used to be married to Pamela Anderson.
