The Motorcycle Hall of Fame recognizes the great racers, inventors, designers and enthusiasts who have made the sport so exciting. Don Emde was in a group of young American motorcycle racers who rode for the Birmingham Small Arms Co. at the inaugural running of the Trans-Atlantic Match Races back in 1971. Visitors can look forward to meeting Emde and hearing his exciting stories at the 2009 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days set for July 24-26 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
Emde will be Grand Marshall for the event that is expected to draw motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the United States. An avid collector he owns a large compilation of memorabilia and historic racing photographs.
In the early 1990s, Emde joined the board of the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation and became a leading voice in the preservation of motorcycle history, especially pertaining to racing. In honor of his accomplishments Emde was inducted in to the AMA's Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 1999.
This year's event is special because it commemorates the 85th anniversary of the AMA and will feature a parade of classic motorcycles, representing each year of the AMA's 85 years. Volunteers with significant bikes produced since 1924 are encouraged to contact the Museum for information about participating in the parade.
AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days benefits the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, located at 13515 Yarmouth Drive in Pickerington, Ohio. For tickets and additional information call 614-856-2222 or visit www.AMAVintageMotorcycleDays.com.
