Full-moon hike — The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is hosting a full-moon hike on the Towpath Trail from 8 to 10 p.m. Meet at the Hunt Farm Visitor Information Center off Bolanz Road in Cuyahoga Falls.
Junior Rangers — The National Park Service is presenting a Junior Rangers program on beavers for youngsters 7 to 12 years old in the Cuyahoga Valley park. Beer train — The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad will hold a beer-tasting train with five samples from the Thirsty Dog Brewery from 7 to 9 p.m. The train will depart from the Rockside Station in Independence. Tower tour — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources are presenting a tour of the control tower and visitors center at the Michael J. Swim-in movie — Cleveland Metroparks will hold a dive-in movie with a screening of R.V. at the Ledge Pool & Recreation Area in Hinckley Township. You can watch the movie from the lawn or from rented inner tubes in the heated pool. The doors open at 8 p.m. Cartoons start at 8:30 p.m. and the movie at 8:45 p.m. Children under 8 must be accompanied by adults. No outside flotation equipment is permitted. Inner tubes are available for $4 for a single tube or $6 for a double tube. Reservations for tubes are required at 330-239-2911. The Ledge Pool & Recreation Area is at 1511 Ledge Road between State and Kellogg roads in Hinckley Township.
Saturday
Tour de Towpath — Registration begins at 9 a.m. in Canal Fulton for the Tour Du Towpath bicycle ride. The tour on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail begins and ends at the the Canalway Visitor Center. There are four rides: eight-, 18- and 31-milers on the trail and a 31-mile road-and-trail ride. There are staggered ride starts. Sponsored by the Akron-based Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition. The entry fee is $25, $10 for youngsters 12 and under. Families are $60 for two adults and two children; additional children are $5 each. A lunch will be served all riders, starting at 11 a.m. At 12:15 p.m., riders are invited to Canal Fulton Glassworks, 215 Market St., for a glass demonstration. Valley hike — The National Park Service is staging a 11/2-mile hike on the Brandywine Gorge Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley. It will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet at Brandywine Falls off Brandywine Road in Sagamore Hills Township.
Night bike ride — Century Cycle in Peninsula is organizing a night bike ride along the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley. Bicyclists will pedal 15 to 20 miles. The ride will start at 8 p.m. Helmets and bike lights are required. Meet at the bike shop on state Route 303 next to the Cuyahoga River. Call 800-201-7433 for more information.
Adopt a trail — The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is seeking volunteers to help clean up and maintain trails. Volunteers are needed from 8 to 11 a.m. on the Stanford and Brandywine Gorge trails. Meet at the Boston Store Visitor Center off Boston Mills Road in Boston Township. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and dress for the weather. Bring a small pack with work gloves, water and lunch. Horses in valley — Learn how horses were once used in the Cuyahoga Valley from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hunt Farm Visitor Information Center. That's off Bolanz Road in Cuyahoga Falls.
Chillin' out — The Cuyahoga Valley park's M.D. Garage will host an exhibit of Chillin' Out paintings by the Crooked River Gang, a group of local painters, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show will continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The garage is off Boston Mills Road east of the Cuyahoga River in the hamlet of Boston.
Extended hike — Volunteer Pat Patterson will lead an extended hike of five miles through the Waldo Semon Woods Conservation Area in northern Summit County. Star watch — Medina County's Letha House Park will host a public star watch from 9 to 11 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Medina County Park District and the Cuyahoga Astronomical Association. Summit hikes — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 9 a.m. at the Vanderhoof Trailhead off Vanderhoof Road in New Franklin, You can hike from one to 10 miles on the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail. Call 330-524-9415 for more information.
North Summit hike — The Portage Trail Walkers hiking club will meet at 9 a.m. at Brandywine Falls for a hilly five-mile hike. Meet at the Brandywine Falls Trailhead off Brandywine Road in Sagamore Hills Township. Call 330-673-6896 for more information.
Open fishing — The Ohio Division of Wildlife is opening its fishing ponds to youth anglers from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The ponds will also be open Sunday at 912 Portage Lakes Dr., Coventry Township. Equipment, bait and assistance will be provided. It will be open weekends through Labor Day. Youths must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adults cannot fish but can assist. Voyageur canoes — Cleveland Metroparks is offering paddles in fiberglass replicas of Voyageur canoes at 11 a.m. and 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m. at Hinckley Lake in its Hinckley Reservation. The trips will be repeated at 11 a.m. and 12:30, 2 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Hinckley Lake is located between West and East drives south of Bellus Road in Medina County's Hinckley Township. Bug City — Cleveland Metroparks is presenting Bug City from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the Garfield Park Nature Center in the Garfield Park Reservation. Roundhouse open house — The Midwest Railway Preservation Society will hold a public open house at its historical Baltimore & Ohio Roundhouse from noon to 4 p.m. in Cleveland. Music at farmstead — Time for Three will present an outdoor concert at 6:30 p.m. at the Conrad Botzum farmstead in the Cuyahoga Valley park. That's at 3486 Riverview Road in Cuyahoga Falls. Morning hike — The National Park Service is presenting a beat-the-heat morning hike of seven miles on the moderately tough Buckeye and Valley trails. The hike will run from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Meet at the Pine Land Trailhead off state Route 303 in Peninsula.
Trail tunes — Mandolin player Chris Hazen will entertain at the Boston Store Visitor Center in the Cuyahoga Valley park from 1 to 3 p.m. The music will be canceled if it rains.
Family fun — The National Park Service is holding special activities for families from 1 to 3 p.m. at six locations in the Cuyahoga Valley park: the Beaver Marsh, Hunt Farm Visitor Information Center, Park Place in Peninsula, the Trail Mix store, Frazee House and the Canal Visitor Center.
Ice cream hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the FirstMerit Bank off West Market Street in Akron's Highland Square neighborhood. It will be five-mile hike on sidewalks and parks. Call 330-524-9415 for more information.

Park concert — The Metro Parks Ensemble will perform at 6:30 p.m. at Munroe Falls Metro Park. Sponsored by Metro Parks, Serving Summit County. Free evening lake swimming. The Friends of Metro Parks will serve free cake and ice cream, while supplies last, compliments of Acme Fresh Market. The park is at 521 S. River Road in Munroe Falls. Meteor showers — The National Park Service will, weather permitting, hold a meteor watch from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m. in the Cuyahoga Valley park. Meet ranger Paul Motts at the Oak Hill Trailhead off Oak Hill Road in Boston Township to view the Perseid Meteor Shower. If it rains, the program will be canceled.
Backpacking class — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County is holding a backpacking class at 7 p.m. in the Brushwood Area at Furnace Run Metro Park. That's off Townsend Road in Richfield Township. Those who attend three two-hour workshops will be able to join a Sept. 10 overnight trip. The other classes are Aug. 18 and Aug. 25. Call 330-865-8065 for reservations and more information.
Wednesday
Evening hike — The National Park Service is holding a four-mile hike on the Oak Hill and Plateau trails in the Cuyahoga Valley park. It will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Meet at the Oak Hill Trailhead off Oak Hill Road in Boston Township.
Adopt a trail — The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is seeking volunteers to help clean up and maintain trails. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon on the Boston Run Trail. Meet at the north parking lot at the Happy Days Lodge off state Route 303 in Boston Heights. Wear sturdy shoes or boots and dress for the weather. Bring a small pack with work gloves, water and lunch. Call 330-666-2270 for more information.
Adopt a trail II — The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is seeking volunteers to help clean up and maintain trails. Volunteers are needed from 1 to 5 p.m. on the Tree Farm Trail.
