Q: Back in the '70s or early '80s, there was a television movie starring Martin Sheen. The name of the movie was ''The California Kid.'' I have been trying for years to find it on VHS or DVD. Do you know where I might find this?
A: The California Kid originally aired in 1974. Sheen played a man trying to bring down a sadistic sheriff (Vic Morrow) who has killed Sheen's brother. (Sheen's brother, by the way, was played by Joe Estevez, his real-life brother.) The cast also included Michelle Phillips and Nick Nolte. Timeless Media released it on DVD in 2007; if your local retailer cannot get it, I have seen copies for sale at Amazon.com, Deepdiscount.and Moviesunlimited.com.
Q: I tried to contact NBC directly about ''Pushing Daisies,'' but they sent a standard reply which was in effect no reply because they told me to read FAQ and my question was not there. I enjoy the bizarre humor of this show and am disappointed that they haven't shown it for several weeks. Will it return?
A: Pushing Daisies, which airs on ABC, returned on Wednesday night and has telecasts scheduled on Nov. 26 and Dec. 10. But ABC has not ordered episodes beyond the 13 it agreed to at the beginning of this season, and several published reports say that the 13 are the last of what we will see unless ABC decides to give the show a third season.
Q: I had a VCR tape of ''Dolores Claiborne.'' Somehow lost it. I absolutely cannot find another. I loved the movie, and watched it at least once a year. Can you help me out?
A: If you can see DVDs, the movie is easily available in that format, both on its own and in a box set with three other movies based on Stephen King. If you must have VHS, I have seen it for sale on Amazon.com and eBay, among other online sellers.
Q: I would like to find the name of a World War II naval picture about an aircraft carrier that was so badly damaged it was towed back to the States for repair. It starred William Bendix and others. I have been trying for years to find out the film's name.
A: It appears that you are remembering Battle Stations, a 1956 film starring Bendix, John Lund and others.
Q: I just finished watching a ''House'' episode entitled ''The Itch.'' At the end of the episode is a song with a man singing and an acoustic guitar playing. I know that I have heard the song before, but in a different melody. The lyrics mention ''I'm in love with a girl . . . '' What is it? Nirvana, Delirious, Gavin DeGraw?
A: There is a song called I'm in Love With a Girl by Gavin DeGraw. But the House Web site says the show used a different I'm in Love With a Girl, credited to Alex Chilton — but which sounds like the original recording by Big Star, a band that included Chilton. You may also remember his work with the Box Tops (The Letter, Soul Deep)
Q: There was a show in the '80s or '90s starring an Asian man as a police officer. He did a lot of funny stunts, similar to Jackie Chan's movies. My sister and I loved watching it, but can't remember the name of the show or the actor.
A: Most likely you are remembering Martial Law, which starred martial-arts movie actor-director Sammo Hung as a Chinese detective assigned to work for the Los Angeles police. It included a lot of elaborate, often funny stunts. The series aired on CBS for two seasons. The cast also included Kelly Hu and Arsenio Hall.
