Black Keys Black Friday Benefit. The Black Keys (Patrick Carney and Dan Auerbach) will star at a benefit for Community Support Services from 6 to 10 p.m. Nov. 27 in Akron's Musica and Uncorked Wine Bar Gallery.

The benefit is called The Wild World of Alfred McMoore, in honor of the artist who was a friend of the Keys. McMoore, who died in late September, often spoke of ''black keys'' and so inspired the band's name. As an announcement of the event notes, although he had mental health issues throughout his life, McMoore was able to live independently with the help of Community Support Services — one of 2,000 people currently being helped in that way.

The benefit will showcase McMoore's pencil and crayon drawings. Tickets are $50 to $200 and go on sale at noon today via Ticketmaster.

Nov. 27, by the way, will also see the release of BlakRoc, a CD collaboration between the Black Keys and hip-hop artists including Ludacris, Q-Tip, RZA and Mos Def.

Patrick's Farewell. As has been reported, radio man Matt Patrick will have his last broadcast on WKDD (98.1-FM) on Dec. 18. He is also giving up his talk show on WHLO (640-AM).

Patrick began his local radio career on the old WCUE in July 1979, which later evolved into WKDD. Besides having a long radio run, he has spoken with pride of the annual radiothon for Akron Children's Hospital, which has raised more than $6 million since its debut in 1999.

So why leave? In a statement on WKDD's Web site, Patrick said, ''The time has come to say goodbye. I have no immediate plans.'' He expects to spend some time with his family and then ''I don't know where . . . I don't know when . . . You will hear from me again.''

That certainly suggests that Patrick is interested in staying in radio, so there may have been other issues at work besides this being a good time to hang it up.

More Matt. The respected Ohio Media Watch Web site (http://www.ohiomedia.blogspot.com) offered this perspective on Patrick's situation:

WKDD owner ''Clear Channel, like many of the financially strapped mega-broadcasters in 2009, is likely trying to shed itself of expensive contracts, or get that high-paid talent to take deep pay cuts . . .

''We have no insight into how much the company pays Matt Patrick, but it's not a stretch to imagine that they approached his contract talks with cuts in mind . . . and that the two parties couldn't get their numbers close enough to forge a new deal,'' the site added.

And this: ''That's the economic reality of radio in 2009 . . . [that] high-paid, veteran local personalities are almost 'dead men walking' until their next contract renewal negotiations.''

In any case, between now and Dec. 18, Patrick's statement said, ''I promise you we'll have fun and make some additional memories.''

More Dad. Fox has ordered a sixth season of American Dad, the outrageous animated comedy. It has become a healthy contributor to Fox's fortunes as part of the network's Sunday lineup of animated shows for adults. According to the network, it ''ranks in the Top 10 programs of the season among teens, male teens, men 18-34 [years old], persons 12-34, adults 18-34 and men 18-49.''

Ailing. Actor Dennis Hopper is fighting prostate cancer, says CNN.com. He recently canceled an appearance at an exhibition of his photographs to concentrate on treatment.

Hopper is best known as co-star, co-writer and director of the influential '60s film Easy Rider (recently released in a deluxe Blu-ray package). He has lately been a regular on the Starz series Crash, which has completed production of a second season.
