Paula Davis, executive director of Keep Akron Beautiful, has been named to Keep America Beautiful's national board of directors.
Davis will represent the interests of nearly 580 community-based and statewide affiliate programs. She was nominated by the Keep America Beautiful national office and elected by executive directors of affiliates nationwide.
Davis was also recently tapped to lead an effort to identify environmental priorities for Akron in anticipation of a possible influx of federal block-grant money to reduce energy dependence.
Treehouse donated
One of the most popular treehouses displayed at Stan Hywet this summer has been donated to a church in Medina County's Granger Township.
Robin's Rhapsody has been moved to a play area at the Church at Stony Hill in memory of Adam Dunaye, who died of cancer in 2005 at age 8. The treehouse is on 31/2 acres with a ball field and playground.
The birdhouse-style structure incorporates musical instruments, including a slapophone, wind chimes, gongs, a harp and drums.
The house was donated by its creators, Dorsky Hodgson Parrish Yue, an architectural firm with offices in Cleveland, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Washington.
Keep snow out of street
Reader Michelle Davis of Akron called with a plea worth passing along: Please avoid shoveling or plowing your snow into the street. Piles of snow can block the path of water to storm drains and can cause the water to dam and freeze, she noted.
