An elegant evening awaited guests of the 15th annual Charity Ball, hosted by the Medina County commissioners Saturday night at Weymouth Country Club in Medina.
Commissioners Steve Hambley, Pat Geissman and Adam Friedrick selected several community agencies to receive the proceeds from the gala.
“We are hoping to raise more than last year with $23,000 tonight,” Hambley said.
“This event was born at my kitchen table many years ago when I was sitting talking about how to help the community with Pat Geissman,” said Lynda Bowers.
Sandy and John Lund attend every year.
“We love to dance and socialize and help those in need,” John Lund said.
Along with the three commissioners, other event volunteers were Bowers, Dianne DePasuale-Hagerty, Tim Hilberg, Tanya Martin, Rhonda Wurgler, Dave Wadsworth, Cathy Brown, Peggy Folk, Bill Heffelfinger, Seth Kujat, Sandi Sammon, Pam Vereb and Mindy Wills.
This year’s beneficiaries included Medina Health Ministry, Feeding Medina County, Oasis of Hope Parenting and Pregnancy Support Center, Medina County Historical Society, the Medina County Community Fund and the Lodi Railroad Museum.
Sandy Calvert, director of Feeding Medina County, said, “The money we are given will go to the purchase of a new truck since our current one is getting by on a wing and a prayer.”
“This one truck carries 800,000 pounds of food to feed the needy.”
Wadsworth attended with his daughter, Meghan. Chuck Keiper, Dave and Karen Sehoenlein, Debbie Kiley, Skip Sipos and Susanne and Ken Baca came out to show their support. Vicky and Dean Snyder said they attend every year.
“We come here each year because we enjoy ourselves so much and it’s just a great event,” Vicky Snyder said.
