The United Way of Summit County Volunteer Center recruits and refers volunteers to area nonprofit organizations and other groups required to incorporate volunteer programs for accreditation.
The following organizations need volunteers.

Akron Aeros/Ohio Education Association: Volunteers needed May 1, 9 and 23 for annual ''Education Days.'' Free admission to morning games and lunch. Minimum age: 16.
Akron City Hospital, Summa Health System: Volunteers needed 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays to provide information and directions to patients and visitors. Minimum age: 18.
Ardmore Inc.: Volunteers needed 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays to help adult mental retardation clients take part in activities such as puzzles, billiards, shooting basketball, reading, computers, gardening, and arts and crafts. Minimum age: 18, 12 with adult supervision.
Area Agency on Aging: Volunteer ombudsmen wanted to visit nursing home residents as a resident rights advocate. The next 12-hour training session begins May 6. Minimum age: 18.
AseraCare Hospice: Volunteers wanted to spend time with patients, provide respite, do office and clerical work, assist bereaved, etc. Minimum age: 18, 14 with adult supervision.
Big Brothers & Sisters of Summit & Medina Counties: Male mentors needed for boys, ages 7-15. One-year commitment. Minimum age: 18.
Cascade Locks Park Association: Volunteers wanted noon to 3 p.m. or 3 to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays to welcome visitors to the Mustill Store. Minimum age: 18, younger with supervision.
Cherubim's Cultural Center: Volunteers needed 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. or 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays to help staff with caring for infants and toddlers during preschool and after-school programs. Minimum age: 18.
City of Akron Recreation Bureau: Volunteers needed to greet public, take tickets and register teams for King James Shooting Star Classic, between the hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. April 25-27. Minimum age: 18, 15 with adult supervision.
Crossroads Hospice NEO: Volunteers wanted daily to visit patients in their homes or nursing homes to offer comfort and encouragement. Minimum age: 16.
Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital, Summa Health System: Volunteers needed 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays to help in gift shop. Minimum age: 18, 14 with adult supervision.
Edwin Shaw Rehab: Volunteers wanted 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 3 to 8 p.m. weekdays to help in gift shop. Volunteers also are needed Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings to transport patients to and from Spiritual Care Services. Minimum age: 18.
Fair Housing Contact Service: Volunteers needed 2 to 5 p.m. weekdays two or three days a week to answer multiple phone lines and help with other office/clerical needs. Minimum age: 16.
Faith in Action-Interfaith Caregivers: Volunteers wanted to help with providing transportation, friendly visits, telephone reassurance and respite care for older adults. Minimum age: 16.
Goodwill Industries of Akron: Volunteers wanted weekdays with experience in millinery work to help with maintaining vintage hats and accessories; volunteers also needed to sew and repair vintage clothing. Minimum age: 18.
Grandparents Against Sex Predators (G.A.S.P.): Volunteers wanted weekends and evenings to fingerprint children attending community functions. Minimum age: 18.
Greenleaf Family Center: Volunteers needed 5 to 7 p.m. once a month on Mondays to help with child care and meal preparation for parenting program. Minimum age: 18.
Keep Akron Beautiful: Volunteers needed for annual Clean Up Akron Week, April 26-May 3; Super Saturday, May 3. Minimum age: 18, younger with adult supervision.
Stewart's Caring Place: Volunteers wanted 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays to answer phones, welcome and direct visitors, gather information and give tours. Minimum age: 16.
YMCA, East Akron: Volunteers needed 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays to answer phones and do filing and data entry. Minimum age: 18.
