• PAWSibilities, Humane Society of Greater Akron will host a Pet Expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the First and Main green today, during the Hudson Wine Festival. Vendors will feature pet-related products, and adoptable animals will be at the event, which is free.
Guests can enter an Italian ice eating contest for owners and pets at 11:30 a.m., and the Buckeye Area Regional K-9 team will perform a demonstration at 11:45 a.m.
• The Public Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) of Ohio will hold an adopt-athon from noon to 4 p.m. today at the Mayfield Heights PetSmart at Golden Gate Plaza with reduced prices for cats and kittens.
The store will have a booth to adopt cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. All animals will be spayed or neutered and have all required shots for their ages.
Adult cats over 1 year old are $30 and kittens are $50. Adopt an additional cat for $25. Adult dogs over 6 months are $150 and puppies are $175.
• The Akron Zoo will host Princess and Pirate Night from 6 to 9 p.m. July 28. Children can come dressed in their best princess gown or pirate attire and search the zoo for treasures.
The zoo will highlight frogs and parrots. Mascot Conrad Conservation will be available for pictures and there will also be a live animal show, face painting, a costume contest, bounce houses and crafts.
Visitors can choose to stay the night for a night hike, behind-the-scenes tour, animal feeding, crafts, an animal program and more.
Tickets for Princess and Pirate Night are $12 for adults and $14 for children. Members are $7 for adults and $9 for children. Snooze at the Zoo tickets are $50 for adults and $48 for children. Members are $36 for adults and $32 for children.

• Paws & Prayers Animal Rescue is sponsoring a Trails for Tails 5K run at 9 a.m. Aug. 5 at the Akron Dog Park, 499 Memorial Parkway. Registration is $20 and canine companions may enter for free. • CHAP Inc. will host a mobile spay and neuter clinic for cats and kittens from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 4 in downtown Akron at the Nefco Building, 180 E. South St.
Kittens need to be 12 weeks old, weigh at least three pounds and be in good health to be eligible. Male neuter is $40 and a female spay is $60; low-cost vaccines, flea and ear mite treatment, nail trimming and ear-tipping for feral cats will also be available.
