Beacon Journal staff report
AKRON: Summit County Children Services recently honored individuals, groups and organizations that have helped the agency.
The following individuals received the 2008 Shining Star Award:
Pat Westfall of Stow: A social worker at Children Services who volunteers on her vacation time to help with almost every community outreach project the agency has, including Easter baskets, school supplies and the Holiday Toy Room.
Stacey Manes of Fairlawn: After first being introduced to the agency during last year's levy campaign, she stepped in as a full-time volunteer for five weeks in the agency's Holiday Toy Room.
Susan I. Tucker of Sagamore Hills: Community outreach manager for the Domestic Relations Court and a Children Services board member, she stepped in to manage the 2007-08 Child and Family Exchange and chair the Child and Family Awareness Month's Close-up Committee.
Jean Lobalzo of Bath Township: A posthumous award, she was recognized for her nearly 50 years of providing generous holiday stockings and gifts to youth in the agency's Independent Living Program.
The Family Volunteer Award was given to the Tietz Family of Copley Township. Since last year, Ron and Elaine Tietz, daughters Terry and Leslie and grandchildren Olivia and Jackson have supported the agency by volunteering as a family.
