Divorce court drama
Christie Brinkley's estranged husband said Wednesday he had sex with his teenage lover in his office, then paid her $300,000 while hoping to keep their affair quiet. He also showered her with spending money, including $500 hidden under a rock.
Peter Cook, called to the stand by his wife's divorce lawyers, was questioned about his affair with Diana Bianchi, 18, who is expected to testify that Cook seduced her shortly after hiring her for his Hamptons architectural firm.
Earlier, the fashion model's lawyer, Robert Stephan Cohen, said Cook spent about $3,000 a month on pornographic Web sites.
Cohen said Brinkley found out about the affair from the teenager's stepfather, moments before she was to speak at the Southampton High School graduation.
''There is no way to make that right,'' Cook's lawyer, Norman Sheresky, said. ''Peter has apologized. He's cried his eyes out. He's lost his marriage.''
But the lawyer said Brinkley is partly to blame for the public spectacle: ''For goodness sake: She's on her fourth husband. Your honor, we're here because of the self-indulgent wrath of a woman scorned.''
Deal averts Broadway strike
The Broadway actors' union and theater producers reached a tentative agreement for a new contract Wednesday, averting the possibility of a strike such as the one that shut down Broadway for almost three weeks in November.
The new contract, which covers 39 months and expires in September 2011, would increase the compensation package for actors — including health benefits and pensions — by 111/4 percent.
Actors' Equity Association and the Broadway League, which represents both producers and theater owners, had been negotiating past the midnight Sunday deadline, when the last contract expired.
Why Lohan story went public
The father of a 13-year-old girl who may be Lindsay Lohan's half-sister said the family went public with the story after Lohan's father, Michael, repeatedly refused to provide support.
The Montana girl's family is looking into legal options to pursue once they establish that Michael Lohan is the father, Daryl Kaufmann said in a phone interview. He said his wife, Kristi Kaufmann, had been trying to get Michael Lohan to support their daughter for years.
''She had enough,'' Kaufmann said of his wife when reached by telephone at their home in Florence, Mont. ''She just wanted it exposed. So he's going to end up having to do something.''
Michael Lohan acknowledged having a sexual relationship with Kaufmann while he was separated from wife Dina Lohan 13 years ago. He said he has taken a paternity test and will take responsibility for the child if he is proved to be the biological father.
Angelina Jolie twin update
Angelina Jolie's doctor says her twins may take a few more weeks to arrive.
Dr. Michel Sussmann spoke at a brief news conference Wednesday in Nice, where Jolie, 33, is hospitalized. Asked when the actress is expected to have her twins, he replied: ''I can't give you a date. Let's say the birth will happen in the weeks to come.''
Sussmann stressed that Jolie checked into the hospital to be kept under observation, not because of any medical emergency.
''Mrs. Angelina Jolie and her husband, Mr. Brad Pitt, told me to tell you that she is doing absolutely fine,'' said the doctor, apparently unaware that the actors aren't married.
''Her hospitalization at this stage in her pregnancy is totally normal for a patient who had a Caesarean [section] during her first pregnancy,'' he said.
Sussmann said four rooms of the hospital had been reserved for the Jolie-Pitt clan and their bodyguards. The couple have four children: Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh, 2.
Tatum O'Neal pleads guilty
Tatum O'Neal pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in her June cocaine possession arrest in lower Manhattan.
Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Elisa Koenderman has ordered the actress, 44, to spend two half-day sessions in a drug treatment program and pay a $95 surcharge.
And finally . . .
China issued an alert Tuesday for algae infestation where Olympic water events will be held. Track and field events will be in smog-ridden Beijing. U.S. athletes are training for China by smoking two packs of cigarettes per day and eating tomatoes.
