TODAY Fourth of July Extravaganza — Friday, M.L.K. Jr. Freeway, Akron. Featuring a performance by Soul'd Out at 7:30 p.m. and fireworks at 9:45 p.m. Free.
Road art — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday-Sunday, The Cuyahoga Valley National Park's M.D. Garage, off Boston Mills Road east of the Cuyahoga River in the hamlet of Boston. Featuring an exhibit of paintings by the Crooked River Gang, a group of area painters.
Fairlawn Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Post Parade Auto Display — 5 p.m., 2711 W. Market St., Fairlawn.
Planetarium show — 8 p.m. Wilderness Center, 9877 Alabama Ave. S.W., Wilmot. Followed by star watching through telescopes. 330-359-5235.

64th annual Bath Fire Department Horse Show — 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, show grounds at Everett and Revere roads. $5; children and seniors, $3. Tickets are available at the gate. Details: Bath Fire Department, 330-666-3738.
Valley hike — 9 a.m. Meet at Deep Lock Quarry Metro Park off Riverview Road south of state Route 303 in Peninsula. The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet for hikes of 13 or 5 miles in the Cuyahoga Valley. Trail options are the Buckeye, Valley and Towpath trails. Information: 330-733-3995.
West Branch hike — 9 a.m. Meet at the Cable Line Road boat ramp in Edinburg Township. The Portage Trail Walkers hiking club will meet for a hike on the trails and roads at West Branch State Park in eastern Portage County. Information: 330-678-6896.
Dance With Me — 10 a.m., Kent Le Mar Dance Studio, 2738 Hudson Drive, Cuyahoga Falls. For ages 30 or older. Learn to hip without the hop, and add the seasoning to the salsa. $10 per class. 330-923-5225.
Urban Contemporary Line Dance Classes (beginners) — 10 a.m. to noon, Goodyear YMCA gymnasium, 110 Goodyear Ave. (park on Kelly Avenue and go through double brown doors), Akron. $3 adults; $2 youth. Classes are ongoing. Wear comfortable soft-soled shoes and clothing. Dance to all kinds of music. Dance partner not needed. New dances taught monthly. 330-867-2093.
Butterfly count — 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Meet at Howe Meadow off Riverview Road north of Ira Road in Cuyahoga Falls. Ranger Paul Motts of the National Park Service will direct a butterfly count. Beginners are invited to learn and join in.
Cascade Locks hike — 11 a.m. Meet at the Mustill Store off West North Street near downtown Akron. The Cascade Locks Park Association will hold a hike in the historic park. 330-374-5625.
Middlebury Market Place-Customer Appreciation Day — 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 871 E. Exchange St., Akron. Featuring sidewalk sales, a farmer's market, music and refreshments with a petting zoo, slides and balloons for the children.
