Service helps homeowners with mortgage concerns

If you are a homeowner with mortgage payment problems, the nonprofit Consumer Credit Counseling Service has created the Housing Help Center for you.

The service said its certified counselors will provide free sessions to help homeowners assess their financial situation, rework budgets and contact lenders, if necessary, to develop a plan to address the problem.

Getting help early is the best approach, even if there is only a chance of falling behind, the counseling service said.

Early warning signs include worry that higher food and gasoline prices will make it impossible to get through the month or that adjustable rate mortgages will become too costly; trouble sleeping at night because of bill-paying issues; and skipping some bills each month to pay others.

To make an appointment, call 330-861-0980, 330-452-3115 or 330-722-5242. There are offices in Akron, Medina, Canton and Alliance.
