Wine lovers sample a bit of Italy in Falls

St. Anthony Parish hosts annual benefit at Italian-American fest

By Joyce M. Johnson
Special to the Beacon Journal

Mangia — eat up — was the word as St. Anthony's Parish held its Vino Italia Wine and Food Tasting benefit at the Falls River Square Pavilion in Cuyahoga Falls Saturday evening.

The tasting was part of the Italian-American Council Festival in the Falls.

''We grew up in North Hill, so we always come to the Italian stuff,'' said Carol Curtis, who attended with her husband, Ted.

''These are made from my grandmother's recipe,'' said Jim D'Angelo from Casa D'Angelo's as he discussed cannoli and other family favorites that have been handed down through the generations.

''We are here for the first time,'' said Rebecca Finley, who brought her husband, Dan.

''Our scout Troop 15 from Trinity United Church of Christ is helping to set up and clean up,'' Bill Folk said. His wife, Nancy, was also a volunteer.

This year's planning committee included Tom and
Linda Teodosio, Raphael Vaccaro, Jack DeLeo and Katie Keehner.

Don Davis and his wife, Caroline, had 14-month-old Sophia with them.

Flora Garcia, Sally Dalessandro and Julie Pasonessa greeted guests.

Enjoying the festive atmosphere were Mary Lofresco, Chris and Joe Perrow, Evan Perrow, Debbie Stincic, Erin and Matt Harmon, Paul and Sherry Harmon, and Ed and Laura Ruper.

Jeff and Gina Welsh are wine lovers and looked forward to an evening of tasting good wines.

''This is the kind of event that makes us a community,'' Jeff Welsh said.

This is the third year for the event, which attracted 200 people. Proceeds benefit St. Anthony's IBH and the Italian-American Scholarship fund.
