Q: Our dog does not travel well, although he enjoys being at new places. Often he throws up in the car, and even if he doesn't, he paces and whines.

A: Chances are good that your dog's symptoms are stress related and not motion related, according to Lucy the Wonder Dog at http://www.lucythewonderdog.com.
The rationale is that a puppy's first car trip carried him far from the safety and comfort of his family.
Find a park or grassy area that's a very short ride from the house and drive him there. Be sure to distract him along the way.
At the park, make a fuss and play and give your good boy a treat. You don't have to stay long. Drive home directly don't forget the distractions and have another party when you arrive.
Do this every couple days or so, lengthening the rides ever so slightly until you have liftoff. Good luck.
