You can build a rain barrel at a workshop being presented in Silver Lake by the Summit Soil and Water Conservation District.
Rain barrels are regaining popularity as a way to capture rainwater for such uses as watering gardens and washing cars. The barrels help control storm drainage and conserve treated water.
The workshop will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 4 at the boathouse in Silver Lake Estates, 2925 Silver Lake Blvd.
Participants can order rain barrel kits in advance to assemble at the workshop. The barrels cost $60 for the first barrel and $30 for the second. Prices include delivery.
The workshop is limited to 25 participants. Registration deadline is noon Aug. 29, or when the class is filled.

Bug Buddy camp
This camp isn't for the squeamish.
The Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster Township is offering its first Bug Buddy day camp from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 12. The camp will feature a bug zoo, bug hunt, crafts and activities.
Cost is $18, which includes lunch. The camp is limited to 20 children, elementary-school age.
The camp will be in the K-12 Center in the basement of the Administration Building on the OARDC campus, 1680 Madison Ave.

Flower show
Gardeners and floral arrangers are invited to enter Our Town, a mini flower show Aug. 15 at St. Sebastian Church's Zwisler Hall.
The show is presented by the church's Little Flower Garden Club.
The show has two competitive divisions, design and horticulture. Contestants must register between 9 and 11 a.m. the day of the show. Judging will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the exhibits on display from 1 to 3 p.m.
