Q: I am hoping to locate a family you wrote about that had a special-needs Doberman. The dog was paralyzed. I am hoping they might have ideas about finding a kind and caring forever home for our own sweet special-needs dog, Brutus.
While not nearly as serious as being paralyzed, he does have colitis. My husband and I both work outside the home and spend evenings playing taxi for our teenage son. Brutus is suffering more than he has to.

A: Mere physical discomfort and occasional loneliness are nothing compared to the loss of a family. You sound like good people, so think about what you're saying and resist the urge to dump your dog. His trusting, beating heart is part of your pack.
Good things come to those who own up to their responsibilities. You are Brutus' forever family, a commitment you made when you brought him home.
