History meets the holidays during the seventh annual Sugar Plum Tour, 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 7.
This year's home tour will make five stops, including four West Akron houses dating to the late 1920s, a period of architectural and industrial significance in the city. The tour will also visit a home built in 1983.
The tour typically sells out, so it's a good idea to get your tickets early. General admission tickets are $25 and can be ordered at http://www.sugarplumtour.org or 330-761-6426. You can also buy general-admission tickets for cash at Angel Falls Coffee Co., 792 W. Market St.
Also available are a limited number of $100 patron and $150 grand patron tickets, which include admission to a party at a sixth home. Call about availability.
Proceeds support the philanthropic efforts of the Gay Community Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation.
Green litter bags
Keep Akron Beautiful was a leader in environmentalism long before it was chic. Now the organization is using a visible symbol of its commitment: litter-collection bags that are green both in color and in eco-friendliness.
The bags, bearing the Keep Akron Beautiful logo, are biodegradable and free of heavy metals. They're manufactured by Accutech Films.
You might see them being used by cleanup crews when you're driving along one of Akron's highways.
Wright home tour
Frank Lloyd Wright fans, take note: You can visit private homes designed by Wright and his contemporaries in historic Oak Park, Ill., during the annual Wright Plus Housewalk on May 16.
Tickets are available athttp://GoWright.org. The cost is $95, or $80 for members of the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust.
