Q: I use plastic protectors covered with felt discs on the bottoms of my chair legs to keep them from denting my wood floors, but the felt pads keep coming off. Is there a better kind of chair glide?
— Pat GreeneSpringfield Township
A: Felt is the best material for protecting hardwood floors, said Don Nevitt of Williams Hardwood Flooring in Akron. However, the adhesive on self-stick felt discs isn't very strong, and adhesives in general just don't hold well on plastic, he said.
Nevitt recommended removing the plastic protectors and then attaching felt discs directly to the bare wood with hot glue or contact cement. His company particularly likes to use a felt flooring material, which it sells for $5 a roll. The felt can be cut to fit the tips of your chair legs.

I use small strips of cowhide leather secured with velcrow, after a few years the cowhide will wear smooth enough to mooooooove easily without denting the floor whatsoever. At $2.00 a strip you should be able to do the whole job for less than a dollar.Good luck.
