A champagne reception at Rockside Station in Independence started the fifth annual All Aboard Ball Saturday evening. About 300 guests boarded the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for a trip through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to the Fitzwater Yard and Maintenance Facility in Cleveland for dining and dancing.
Arnie de la Porte, chairman of the railroad board, greeted guests as they disembarked from the train, and John and Cindy Brunovsky offered keys for a trip aboard the St. Lucie Sound. Donald and Kristen Gest, Karl and Terri Lucas, Ken and Kelly Hall, Marci Zimmerman, and Tom and Karen McKee enjoyed being outdoors in the national park.
Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson welcomed honorary chairman Mal Mixon and his wife, Barb. Also enjoying the event were Siegfried and Heidi Buerling, Valerie McCall, Dave Smith, Sue Reid, Janet Forster, Leslie Hoffman, Mike and Marti Hardy, Zach and Shannon Wemple, Sean and Brooke Hice and Doug Moore.
Park Superintendent John Debo invited guests to tour the railroad's maintenance facility to see the latest equipment that keeps the trains running, carrying 150,000 passengers annually through the park.
Jon Elsasser joined Phil and Joan Fracassa for dinner catered by Sammy's; while Dana and Joe Saporito joined parents Rick and Susan Lobalzo, uncle Mike Lobalzo and friends Karen and John Mayer.
Kelly Steele introduced event chairman Greg Glenn, who presented a citation to Patrick Holland for his 20 years of service on the board.
Bob Hale conducted the live auction. Peter and Cindy Buerling had the winning bid for a fall trip on the railroad's Emerson Dome Car; Rick Lobalzo will take 40 guests on the Polar Express; while his wife, Susan, had the winning bid for a Caboose Hop and Hobo Dinner.
Proceeds from the live auction are used for student field trips aboard the train.
Santa Claus made a surprise appearance to remind everyone that tickets for the two most popular excursions the Polar Express and Day Out with Thomas are available with railroad membership. For information, call 800-468-4070.

Sounds like it was fun. . . .I feel all warm & fuzzy inside. . .
Yes, it was a warm an fuzzy event. If you have money to spare and want to benefit a good cause, it's an experience you won't forget. My wife and I enjoy going just to see the professionalism of the caterers. The events have been in all kinds of locations and they perform lawlessly.... ....and you get to play with trains!!!(well, take tours of them)
Whoops, that's Flawlessly
