Early 20th-century homes in Canton neighborhood will be welcoming visitors
Published on Saturday, Jun 20, 2009
One of Canton's most noteworthy neighborhoods is welcoming visitors next Saturday.
The Historic Ridgewood neighborhood is sponsoring a walking tour of homes from 1 to 4 p.m., starting at Temple Israel, 333 25th St. NW. Tours will start on the hour. Guided and self-guided tours are available.
Participants will visit homes that exemplify the work of four architects who designed many of the houses in Ridgewood: Herman J. Albrecht, Louis Hoicowitz, Charles E. Firestone and John Sherwood Kelley.
Historic Ridgewood was established in 1918 and was home to many of Canton's prominent people of the early 20th century. Decades later, residents banded together to save its brick streets and ornate light standards and worked to salvage its charm.
Tour tickets are $10. The admission price includes a carriage ride through the neighborhood, entertainment and a classic car showcase.
More information on the neighborhood is at http://www.historicridgewood.com.

Correction
A belated tip of the trowel to Nick's Landscaping of Ohio LLC, one of the vendor partners participating in Dreamscape 2009.
An item in this column last week reported on the Dreamscape raffle, a fundraiser for Keep Akron Beautiful that awards a professionally designed and installed yard makeover to the winner. Keep Akron Beautiful accidentally omitted Nick's Landscaping from the information it sent to the news media.
