Love INC. (In the Name of Christ) held its first dinner and auction Saturday evening at Annunciation Greek Community Center in downtown Akron. The fundraiser will benefit the organization that provides food, shelter, clothing and other services to needy in the area.
''They have helped me pay off a huge electric bill, and since I am a job seeker, it means waking up in a warm house and that is everything,'' said former client Suzanne LeBoeuf.
Co-chairs were Madeline Bozzelli, Alice Jordon and the Rev. Jerry Hall.
Representing the First Baptist Church were Paul Kuczkowski, Helen and Ed Keen, Eliza Lewis, Dawn Snyder and Jo Knott.
More than 100 people gathered for a silent and live auction. They included Sophie Vasilopouls and her sister Pauline Vasilopouls and their friend Vicki Manolis.
Katerine Smith said she was hoping to bid on a crayon wreath. Bernice Herring made a bid on a vintage blue floral lamp.
Her friend Linda Haynes said, ''I would like to win either one of the trips or perhaps the wine basket.''
Nicolette Koozer and Cynthia Schostak were auction co-chairs; the master of ceremonies for the evening was WONE personality T.K. O'Grady.
Piano music was provided by Joe Lehman; Brenda Justice was the vocalist.
