People Helping People - Nov. 27

People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions. A form for submitting requests to People Helping People can be found at http://www.ohio.com/charity, along with tips on researching charities and a list of causes published.

Tutoring Nurtures Talent Inc., 3352 Boyne Road, Norton, OH 44203, provides supplemental educational services to students of low-income families. It needs volunteers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 19 to assist with its holiday party and to present gifts to families and children. Minimum age is 15, or 12 with adult supervision.

Battered Women's Shelter, 759 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303, is seeking the following:

• Donors to ''adopt'' families by buying Christmas gifts. Items should be wrapped, labeled and dropped off by Dec. 24. Gift certificates, grocery store gift cards and/or holiday dinners or food are also welcome.

• Donations of new items to be used by residents throughout the year, such as pans, dishes, drinking glasses, silverware, bakeware, small appliances, single sheets, comforters, pillows, laundry soap, household cleaning supplies, trash bags, diapers, batteries, light bulbs, clock radios and paper products, including toilet paper. Deadline is Dec. 31.

Wayne County Children Services, 2534 Burbank Road, Wooster, OH 44691, partners with the community to protect children from abuse or neglect and to strengthen, preserve and empower families. It is seeking donors to sponsor children and families through its Christmas ''Make a Wish'' program. Donations of new items or money are welcome.
