People Helping People - Nov. 28

People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions. Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, 350 Opportunity Parkway, Akron, OH 44307, provides food and other essentials to more than 400 member agencies in Carroll, Holmes, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties.

Financial donations are needed to feed hungry people this holiday season. Every $1 donation provides three meals for those in need.

Springtime of Hope, 130 Reimer Road, Wadsworth, OH 44281, focuses on providing safe and secure housing for the homeless and less fortunate of Summit County. Two nights a week, its mobile outreach provides a hot meal, toiletries, clothing, shoes, boots, tents, sleeping bags, blankets, etc.

The organization needs money as well as warm boots, long underwear and other items except dress clothes and shoes. In addition, it is asking churches and organizations to collect shaving cream, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper, C and D size batteries, mouthwash and men's and women's underwear in sizes large and extra-large, to be distributed Christmas night.

United Disability Services, 701 S. Main St., Akron, OH 44311, provides programs and services to enhance life for individuals with disabilities and for their caregivers. It is seeking donations of holiday food baskets for eight families in need and needs families, groups or individuals to provide holiday entertainment for its clients on weekdays. Minimum age is 16, or younger with direct supervision.
