People Helping People - Nov. 30

 

People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions. A form for submitting requests to People Helping People can be found at http://www.ohio.com/charity, along with tips on researching charities and a list of causes published.

Helping Hands of Summit County Inc., P.O. Box 26601, Akron, OH 44319, helps children, women and disabled and elderly people who need assistance with housing, utilities, furniture, vehicles and medical bills because of terminal illness or unexpected events.

It is seeking donors to adopt families for the holidays by providing gifts, grocery store gift cards and money for expenses such as utility bills and mortgage payments or rent.

It is also seeking money, grocery and department store gift cards and a laptop computer. Checks and gift cards may be mailed.

Good Neighbors Inc., 1453 Goodyear Blvd., Akron, OH 44305, provides needy people with food and clothing throughout the year. It also helps with back-to-school and Christmas items.

The organization is seeking donations of money, food, toys, Christmas gifts, cleaning products, linens, toiletry items and personal hygiene products.

Refuge of Hope Ministries, 300 Walnut St. NE, Canton (mailing address is P.O. Box 9361, Canton, OH 44711), is an inner-city, faith-based organization that provides spiritual hope, food and shelter to people in crisis.

It is seeking financial contributions and donations of canned and boxed foods, baked goods, new bed pillows, tissues, toilet paper and paper towels. In addition, it is seeking donors to provide Christmas gifts for one client or to fill a Christmas stocking provided by Refuge of Hope.
