Old Carolina Barbecue to open in September or October in Copley
By Lisa Abraham

Published on Wednesday, Jun 24, 2009
Big news for Sushi on the Roll, the Bath Township sushi maker. Its rolls soon will be available in nearly every Sam's Club in Ohio.
Sushi on the Roll owners Ken Oppenheimer and Jon Roller said they were thrilled to be accepted into Sam's Club stores, because they normally don't stock such perishable products.
Oppenheimer said the rolls have a one-day shelf life and will be brought in fresh to the stores each day.
Their sushi also will be available at concession areas of Blossom Music Center this summer, in addition to the Akron Aeros and Cleveland Browns stadiums.
Look for their sushi in Sam's Club stores beginning Tuesday.
BBQ by September
Brian Bailey, owner of Old Carolina Barbecue Co., said the eatery's third location is expected to open on Ridgewood Road in Copley Township in September.
''We've had some normal delays,'' Bailey said.
The company already has spots in Massillon and Jackson Township.
''We think we will open in late September or October. We want to get in before the holidays,'' Bailey said.
The company is still looking for properties in the Chapel Hill Mall area for a fourth location. After that, Bailey said, he and partner Tim Hug expect to sell franchises in the Cleveland area.
Bailey and Hug did not win a recent barbecue competition on the Live With Regis and Kelly show. But Bailey said the pair got a lot of votes from loyal customers and will be planning an appreciation day.
Wine time in Cleveland
The Cleveland Wine Festival returns this weekend to Voinovich Park in downtown Cleveland.
The Friday and Saturday event, in its fourth year, will feature a variety of tastings from more than 40 exhibitors, food and wine education programs, as well as cooking demonstrations and live music.
Highlights include winemaker Joe Kidd from Sterling Vintners Collection and the Barefoot Wine Sangria Challenge. New this year is the Belgian Beer Cafe presented by Stella Artois, with master beer sommelier Marc Stroobandt offering information on pairing food and Belgian beers, specifically Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe. He'll also talk about the use of proper glassware for beer and pouring techniques.
Tickets are $25 by Thursday, or $30 at the door. Admission includes a wine glass, 10 tastings and a program, as well as the seminars, demonstrations and entertainment.
Designated driver tickets are $10 in advance or at the door and include nonalcoholic beverages. Group discounts are available. Visitors under 21 are admitted free with a paid adult.
Proceeds will benefit the Bright Side of the Road Foundation, to help find a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease.
Festival hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday.
To purchase tickets or for information, visit http://www.clevelandwinefestival.com or call 888-210-0074.
Voinovich Park is at 800 E. Ninth St. in downtown Cleveland.
Bowl of hope and cereal
Post Cereals has joined with Feeding America to donate one bowl of cereal to local food banks for every box of Shredded Wheat it sells between now and December.
The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank will receive some of the good will from the Bowls of Hope program.
Feeding America, a domestic hunger relief charity, estimates a 30 percent increase in need for food banks this year because of the recession and rising unemployment.
For information about the program, visit http://www.postshreddedwheat.com.
What's in a name?
That depends on whether you're a talking syrup bottle.
For more than 40 years, Mrs. Butterworth has been an American advertising icon. But did you ever wonder what her first name is?
The country is about to find out.
The syrup company is sponsoring a ''Guess Mrs. Butterworth's First Name'' contest.
Actually, the contest winner will get to give Mrs. Butterworth a name. Entrants must submit their suggestion, along with an explanation in 100 words or less about why their guess is correct.
The winner will receive $500 and a year's supply of syrup.
To enter, visit http://www.mrsbutterworthsyrup.com/namecontest. All entries must be received by July 17.
I vote for Betty — Betty Butterworth has nice alliteration.
