It was May of 1952 when the famous I Love Lucy episode showed Lucy Ricardo selling the health tonic ''Vitameatavegamin.''
But Lucy was actually three years behind the very first television commercial pitch.
In 1949, the Vita-Mix blender introduced the country to what we now know as the infomercial. Now, 60 years later, Vita-Mix is not only celebrating its anniversary, it's also looking for its next pitch person.
The company is sponsoring a national contest called Pitch Me! to find a new personality to demonstrate its latest blender model, the Professional Series 500.
Contestants need to submit a video of their best Vita-Mix pitch by Dec. 31. Videos will be judged on artistic merit, selling skills (including on-camera persuasiveness) and entertainment value.
Finalists will be selected by Jan. 5 and an online vote between Jan. 11 and 20 will determine the winner, to be announced Jan. 26.
Visit http://www.VitamixTV.com to submit an entry and to review complete rules. The winner gets $10,000 and may star in future advertising.
