Q.: I wanted to know if you can find a recipe for lobster bisque, like was made at Li’l Joe’s Pub. I have not tasted one as good as that.
— Dave Cipolla, Tallmadge
A.: You’re going back a ways. The last Li’l Joe’s Pub (there were at one time two of them) closed in 2000, and was turned into Ken Stewart’s Lodge in Bath Township.
The eatery was run by famed Akron restaurateur Joseph Iacomini and his son Gene. Both are now deceased. Iacomini also operated a location in Hudson, which closed in 1985.
Iacomini’s last move in the restaurant business was to open Papa Joe’s in the Merriman Valley in 1986, which his daughter and grandchildren continue to operate today.
Grandson Jeff Bruno said if you want a taste of the Li’l Joe’s lobster bisque, visit Papa Joe’s every Friday where they still make the recipe from scratch, starting with fresh lobster meat. Because it is still on the menu, the family will not give out the recipe.
