Kasel Associated Industries announced this week it is voluntarily recalling all products manufactured at its Denver facility from April 20, 2012 through Sept. 19 due to possible salmonella contamination.
Recalled items are: Boots & Barkley, BIXBI, Nature’s Deli, Colorado Naturals, Petco and Best Bully Sticks.
The company has not received any reports of illnesses in connection with these products. No other products made by Kasel Associated Industries are included in the recall. Specifically no products with best-by dates after the specified ranges are included in the recall.
Salmonella can sicken animals that eat tainted products. Humans are at risk if they handle contaminated pet products.
Healthy people infected with salmonella should monitor themselves for symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (possibly bloody), abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers with symptoms after contact with these pet products should contact a health-care provider.
Pets with salmonella infections might appear lethargic and have diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some animals will display only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.
Infected but healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If a pet has consumed a recalled product and shows any of these signs, contact a veterinarian.

Consumers who have purchased any listed product are urged to return the item to the retailer for a full refund. Target and Sam’s Club were among retailers that sold the pet products.
