The Akron Zoo will host the first of its four Brew at the Zoo events tonight.
The beer tasting and fundraiser runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and will include music by the band Big 80s. Participating breweries are: Thirsty Dog, Ohio, Elevator, Great Lakes, Black Box, The Brew Kettle, Jackie O’s, Lager Heads, Revolution and Stone. Tramonte Distributing also is attending.
The zoo is ramping up the Brew at the Zoo tastings this year. The events will feature different themes, with the first one focusing on the 1980s. The zoo also is offering a discounted Brew Pass this year that allows people to get into all the tastings.
Tickets are $17 for zoo members and $23 for nonmembers. Brew Passes are $60 for members and $84 for nonmembers. Attendees receive six free samples, and full-sized beers are available for $4. Additional tasting cards are $10. Food will be available for purchase.

World Beer reminder
The World Beer Festival returns Saturday to Cleveland.
The event, held at the Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica and organized by All About Beer magazine, offers two sessions: noon to 5 p.m. for VIPs and 1 to 5 p.m. for general admission.
General admission tickets are $40 and include a tasting glass and 40 tickets to sample from more than 200 different beers. VIP tickets are $75 and include a private hospitality area with private bathrooms, a food buffet and a bonus selection of beers not available to the general public.

Scene Ale Fest
The sixth annual Scene Magazine Ale Fest is set for 1 to 5 p.m. July 19 at Lincoln Park in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood.
The event will feature more than 100 beers and beer cocktails. VIP tickets, which allow you into the festival an hour early, are $55 in advance. General admission tickets are $30 in advance.

Rhythm & Brews
The third annual Rhythm & Brews beer festival returns June 19 to the Canton Cultural Center, 900 Cleveland Ave. NW, Canton.
The event supports the Arc of Ohio — Stark County, a nonprofit that helps individuals with developmental disabilities.
Participating breweries are Millersburg, Great Lakes, Lager Heads and the Brew Kettle. Esber Beverage, Anheuser-Busch Sales of Canton and Heidelberg Distributing Co. also will serve beers from their portfolios.
Rhythm & Brews runs from 6 to 10 p.m. In addition to the beer, many restaurants will be serving food.
The event has a music theme. It’s held both indoors and outdoors at the Cultural Center and guests will hear music no matter where they are. Inside, the band Cyphert will perform, while outside My 101.7-FM on-air personalities will provide entertainment. Tickets are $35, $20 for designated drivers. DESTIHL Brewery is moving into Northeast Ohio. The House of LaRose announced a distribution deal with the Bloomington, Ill., brewery last week.

Hoppin’ Frog Brewery, 1680 E. Waterloo Road, Akron, has expanded its taproom and restaurant hours during the week.
The Tasting Room now opens at 3 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. It’s open until 10 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and 11 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The Tasting Room also is open from noon to 11 p.m. Saturdays.
