Take Note: Akron woman wins $10,000 yard makeover

By Mary Beth Breckenridge
Beacon Journal staff writer

Virginia Robinson's yard is about to get a new look.

Robinson of Akron won a front- or backyard makeover worth $10,000 in Keep Akron Beautiful's annual Dreamscape raffle. The winning ticket was drawn June 4 at Akron's Alexander Park.

She'll meet with designer Jeff Conn of Suncrest Gardens to create a design for her yard, which will be transformed in a landscaping blitz the week of Aug. 3.

Other raffle winners were James Walter of Copley Township, who won $150 worth of tree maintenance or stump grinding from Walent Tree Service; Michael McGlinchy of Akron, who will have $200 worth of mulch or compost installed by TerraScape Ltd.; and Albert Mittiga of Silver Lake, who won a $100 gift basket of gardening supplies from Graf Growers Garden Center.

Companies donate talent, materials and labor to the Dreamscape effort, which raised more than $22,850 for Keep Akron Beautiful's Flowerscape program. The program plants and maintains 40 gardens in downtown Akron.

Besides the companies already mentioned, the Dreamscape vendor partners are Dayton Nurseries Inc., KB Compost Services Inc., Paul's Greenhouse, Donzell's Flower and Garden Center, Hoffman's Garden Center, Akron Brick and Block, Belgard Sales, Cascade Lighting, Circle K, Gates Landscape Co., Hawkins Electric, Hitchcock Fleming & Associates Inc., Naragon Irrigation, Pam's Perennial Plant Farm, R.B.
