First lady Michelle Obama takes readers on a virtual visit to the White House garden in her new book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America.
The story of the garden is the central theme, but the book has the wider purpose of encouraging others to eat and live more healthfully. It describes the joys and challenges of growing food at the White House, offers gardening tips and recipes, profiles public food gardens around the country and promotes the first lady’s campaign to end childhood obesity.
Essays and photos bring the garden to life, including plenty of portraits of the first dog, Bo.
The book is published by Crown Publishing and is $30 in hardcover. Michelle Obama did not take an advance for the book, and all author proceeds will go to the National Park Foundation.
