Anyone can participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count.
You don’t even need a backyard, just a little patch of the outdoors where you can count the feathered visitors for at least 15 minutes.
All you need to do is keep a list of the birds you see and note how long you watched, and then enter that information online.
You’ll need to create an account on the eBird bird-counting site, which you can do now or when you’re ready to enter your data.
A link to eBird, along with other information about the Great Backyard Bird Count, is at www.BirdCount.org.
The minimum time commitment is 15 minutes, but if you wish you can spend more time counting the birds or count at more than one location.
Just keep a separate list for each time you count, whether it’s on the same day, a different day, at the same place or at a new location.
