Tales for tots — The Medina County Park District is holding story hours for youngsters 3 to 6 years old and accompanying adults at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Green Leaf Park at state Route 162 and Medina Line Road in Sharon Township. Echo Pond — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is holding a writing-art program on the Creature from Echo Pond for children 10 and older to adults. Paddle trips — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is offering naturalist-led paddle trip on the Cuyahoga River from 2 to 4:30 p.m. beginning at Tannery Park in Kent. Paddle 4.5 miles to Brust Park in Munroe Falls. Contact Crooked River Adventures at 330-541-7467 for kayak and canoe reservations. The trip will be repeated from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Evening wetlands — The Cuyahoga Valley park is presenting an evening wetlands walk to search for wildlife from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Meet at the Ira Trailhead off Riverview Road north of Ira Road in Cuyahoga Falls.

CCC hike — The National Park Service is staging a 2-mile hike to look at the federal Civilian Conservation Corps and its contributions to the Cuyahoga Valley park. It will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Meet at the Kendall Lake Shelter off Truxell Road in Boston Township.

Fighting invasives — The National Park Service is seeking volunteers to fight invasive plants from 10 a.m. to noon. To volunteer, go to www.nps.gov/cuva and click on volunteer.

American glory — Artwork on American Glory by the Crooked River Gang, a group of local artists, will be featured in an exhibit at the M.D. Garage in the Cuyahoga Valley park. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1556 Boston Mills Road, Boston Township. The show continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Hanging at Hunt — The National Park Service is conducting family activities from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hunt Farm Visitor Information Center in the Cuyahoga Valley. That’s off Bolanz Road in Cuyahoga Falls. The fun will continue from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Astronomy night — The Astronomy Club of Akron is hosting a program on open clusters and planetary nebulae at 9 p.m. at the club’s observatory at Portage Lakes State Park. That’s at 5031 Manchester Road (state Route 93), New Franklin. 330-837-5848.

Seaplane fly-in — The Corsair Model Aircraft Club is holding a model seaplane fly-in from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Nimisila Reservoir. Meet in Parking Lot C-6 off Christman Road in the city of Green. Pilots must be sanctioned. 330-697-1748.

Valley hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 9 a.m. at the Boston Store Visitor Center in the Cuyahoga Valley park for hikes of 8 or 5 miles. The center is off Boston Mills Road in Boston Township. The alternate hike is at 10 a.m. at Mohican State Park near Loudonville. Meet at 3116 state Route 3. 330-923-6371.

Bird banding — The University of Mount Union’s John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center is hosting a bird-banding demonstration from 8 to 10 a.m. The center is on Dan Street in Washington Township. 330-823-7487.

Fiber workshop — The Spicy Lamb Farm near Peninsula is holding fiber workshops (wet felted soap, tablet weaving, needle felting and felted scarf making). Times and fees vary. Reservations are required. 330-657-2012 or www.thespicylamb.com.

Kids fishing — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources is opening its ponds for youth fishing involving youngsters 15 and under. Hours: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Also open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at 8912 Portage Lakes Drive, Coventry Township. Youth anglers must be accompanied by adults, and adults are not allowed to fish in the youth area. 330-644-2293.

Sunday

Sweet Corn Challenge — Organizers are expecting 2,500 bicyclists for the 20th annual Eddy’s Bike Shop Sweet Corn Challenge bike tour in Richfield. The event is among the largest one-day cycling events in Ohio. Riders have four options: 10, 25, 50 or 100 miles. The rides start at state Routes 176 and 303. Registration for the 100-mile ride starts at 7 a.m.; the 50- and 25-milers, at 8 a.m.; and the 10-miler, at 8:30 a.m. The fees vary, depending on the length of the ride. Helmets are required. All riders under 18 must be accompanied by adults. The ride is sponsored by the Richfield Chamber of Commerce. The 100-mile riders will get breakfast, lunch and a dinner at the Taverne of Richfield after the ride. Riders on the three shortest rides will get a picnic lunch at the end of the ride. Brandywine Falls hike — The National Park Service is offering a guided walk to Brandywine Falls in the Cuyahoga Valley park. Meet at 2 p.m. The falls are off Brandywine Road in Sagamore Hills Township.

Morning hike — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is sponsoring a morning hike on the Deer Run Trail at O’Neil Woods Metro Park at 8 a.m. The park is off Martin Road in Bath Township. 330-865-8065 or www.summitmetro
