Backpacking class — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is offering an introduction to backpacking class at 7 p.m. at the Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road, Akron. Contra dance — You can join the musical group Hu$hmoney with its jigs and reels and caller Carol Kopp in a contra dance from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Meet at the Boston Township School House at Riverview Road and state Route 303 in Peninsula. Instruction will be offered at 7 p.m. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. The fee is $6.

Campfire tales — The National Park Service will tell campfire stories about Mr. Roosevelt’s Tree Army from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Cuyahoga Valley park. The program includes an easy 1-mile walk and a campfire. The program will focus on the federal Civilian Conservation Corps. Meet at the Ledges Shelter off Truxell Road in Boston Township.

Dying shirts — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is offering a program on dyeing shirts. Meet at 6 p.m. at the Lake Area of Munroe Falls Metro Park. That’s off South River Road in Munroe Falls. Beginners’ hike — The National Park Service is offering a beginners’ hike at 10 a.m. in the Cuyahoga Valley. Meet at the Octagon Shelter off Truxell Road in Boston Township. It will be a half-mile loop on the Forest Point Trail.

Fields, forests — Artwork on Fields and Forests by the Crooked River Gang, a group of local artists, will be featured in an exhibit at the M.D. Garage in the Cuyahoga Valley park. Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1556 Boston Mills Road, Boston Township. The show continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Hanging at Hunt — The National Park Service is holding family activities from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hunt Farm Visitor Information Center off Bolanz Road in Cuyahoga Falls. The fun will be repeated from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Portage hike — The Portage Park District is sponsoring a hike at 8:30 a.m. on the Trillium Loop Trail at Dix Park. That’s north of Ravenna off state Route 44 in Ravenna Township. 330-297-7728.

Critter crafts — The Medina County Park District is offering a walk-in critter crafts program from noon to 5 p.m.; at the Susan Hambley Nature Center, 4173 Parschen Blvd., Brunswick. It will also be offered from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. .

Snake counting — Medina County Park District naturalists are seeking volunteers to help count snakes. Meet at 1 p.m. at the Wolf Creek Environmental Center, 6100 Ridge Road (state Route 94), Sharon Township. For ages 8 to adult. Wear long pants and solid shoes are required. Painting class — Crown Point Ecology Center in Bath Township is offering a canvas painting class for adults from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 3220 Ira Road. The instructor is Bath artist Hillary Ash.
