Weekday walk — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is presenting a weekday walk at 10 a.m. at O’Neil Woods Metro Park. Meet naturalist Mike Greene in the parking lot off Martin Road in Bath Township. Old-time music — Quail Hollow State Park near Hartville will host an old-time music program from 6 to 9 p.m. Everyone is invited to join in. The park is at 13480 Congress Lake Road NE, Lake Township. Admission is $1. 330-877-6652.

Munroe Falls hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 6 p.m. at Brust Park at North Main Street (state Route 91) and the Cuyahoga River in Munroe Falls for a 5-mile hike on the Bike & Hike Trail. 330-923-6371.

Paddle fun — You can canoe or kayak 4½ miles on the Cuyahoga River from Kent to Brust Park in Munroe Falls. Return transportation will be provided. No experience necessary. Meet at 2 p.m. Kent’s Tannery Park, 100 Stow St. The fee is $20 per kayak or $30 per canoe. Register by calling Crooked River Adventures at 330-541-7467. Bring binoculars, water, sunscreen and dress to get wet. Sponsored by Metro Parks, Serving Summit County.

Story time — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is presenting story times for youngsters 1 to 3 years old and accompanying adults at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. at the Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road, Akron. Healthy hike — The Medina County Park District is holding a healthy hike at 9 a.m. Meet at the Lodge at Allardale off Remsen Road in Granger Township. For ages 10 to adult. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear. 330-722-9364.

Granger hike — The Medina-based Happy Trails Hiking Club will meet at 10 a.m. for a hike or 1 to 2 miles at Allardale Park in Granger Township. The park is off Remsen Road. For ages 10 to adult.

Halloween animals — Learn about creepy Halloween animals in a walk-in program from noon to 5 p.m. at the Susan Hambley Nature Center, 4173 Parschen Blvd., Brunswick. The program continues from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. There will be kid-friendly activities and crafts. Costumes are welcome. 330-722-9364.

Owl fun — The Medina County Park District is presenting a nature program on owls by Laura Jordan of the Medina Raptor Center at 7 p.m. at Letha House Park West, 5800 Richman Road, Chatham Township. A short hike to call in owls will follow. For ages 8 to adult. 330-722-9364.

Bird banding — The Stark County Park District is holding a bird-banding demonstration at 8 a.m. at Sippo Lake Park in Perry Township. Meet at the Wetland Trail behind the Exploration Gateway shelter. 330-409-8096.

Portage hikes — The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the Portage Park District and the Northeast Ohio chapter of the Nature Conservancy are co-hosting four wetland hikes in Portage County. The hikes are at 10 a.m. at Kent Bog State Nature Preserve, 1028 Meloy Road, Kent; 11:30 a.m. at Triangle Lake Bog State Nature Preserve, 3612 Sandy Lake Road, Rootstown Township; 1 p.m. at the Morgan Preserve off Nicodemus Road, Shalersville Township; and 2:30 p.m. at Herrick Fen State Nature Preserve on Seasons Road in Streetsboro.

Pumpkin carving — The Mustill Store will host a pumpkin-carving program and a family campfire from 5 to 9 p.m. off West North Street near downtown Akron. 330-374-5625.

Astronomy program — The Astronomy Club of Akron will present a program on Size and Motions of the Universe at 7 p.m. That will be followed, weather permitting, by a sky watch. Valley hikes — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Cuyahoga Valley. Meet at the Ira Trailhead off Riverview Road north of Ira Road in Cuyahoga Falls. There will be a hilly 6-mile hike or a 5-mile Towpath Trail option. 330-923-6371.

On the farm — The University of Mount Union’s John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center is hosting a farm program from 2 to 4 p.m. The center is on Dan Street in Washington Township. 330-823-7487.

American myths — Christopher Kenney from Canton’s McKinley Museum will speak on American historical myths at 1 p.m. in the Historic Zoar School House in Zoar in northern Tuscarawas County. Free.

Museum party — The Cleveland Museum of Natural History will celebrate Smokey Bear and Woodsy Owl with a family fun day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1 Wade Oval in the University Circle Area. They are featured in a new exhibit that opens Saturday and runs through Jan. 19.
