Pond Brook hike — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is staging a hike of four to five miles in the Pond Brook Conservation Area at Liberty Park. Meet at 10 a.m. at 3973 E. Chuckery hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 2 p.m. for a 5-mile hike in Cascade Valley Metro Park. Meet by the Signal Tree in the Chuckery Area off Cuyahoga Street in North Akron. 330-923-6371.

Saturday

Comet watch — Naturalist Dave Brunfield and astronomy volunteers will direct a Comet ISON watch at 7 p.m. at the Seiberling Nature Realm, 1828 Smith Road, Akron. Sponsored by Metro Parks, Serving Summit County. 330-865-8065 or www.summitmetroparks.org.

Towpath hike — The Stark County Park District is staging a Towpath Trail hike at 9 a.m. Meet at the Crystal Springs Trailhead in Jackson Township. 330-409-8096.

Valley hike — The Portage Trail Walkers hiking club will meet at 9 a.m. for a 5-mile hike on the Plateau Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley. Meet at the Oak Hill Trailhead off Oak Hill Road in Boston Township. 330-673-6896.

Knap-in day —The Wilderness Center at 9877 Alabama Ave. SW, Sugar Creek Township, is holding a flint knap-in day with flint craftsmen from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free. The center will also host a class on beeswax and honey products at 10 a.m. The fee is $20. Registration is required. 877-359-5235.

Cardio hike — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is holding a cardio hike at 1 p.m. at Firestone Metro Park. Meet at the Tuscarawas Meadows Area off Harrington Road in South Akron. Bring drinking water. 330-865-8065 or www.summitmetroparks.org.

Winter walk — Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, is holding a winter hike at 3 p.m. at Cascade Valley Metro Park. Meet in the Oxbow Area off Cuyahoga Street in North Akron. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy boots. 330-865-8065 or www.summitmetroparks.org.

Winter weeds — The Medina County Park District is holding a walk-in program on turning winter weeds into holiday decorations. It will run from noon to 5 p.m. at the Wolf Creek Environmental Center, 6100 Ridge Road (state Route 94), Sharon Township. There will be hikes at 1 and 3 p.m. The event is free but donations of nonperishable food items or paper products for the St. Paul Lutheran Church food pantry are appreciated. Stark hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 2:30 p.m. for a 5-mile hike in Stark County’s Jackson Township. Meet at the Butterbridge Road NW Trailhead. 330-923-6371.

Folk jam — The University of Mount Union’s John T. Huston-Dr. John D. Brumbaugh Nature Center is hosting a folk jam at 2 p.m. There will also be a nature walk, also at 2 p.m. A holiday wreath workshop also begins at 2 p.m. Advance sign-up is required for the wreath workshop. Mogadore hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 2 p.m. for a 3-mile sidewalks-trails hike in Mogadore. Meet at Lions Park off Hale Avenue. 330-923-6371.

Tuesday

Trail cleanup — Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Salt Run Trail in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Meet at the Pine Hollow Trailhead off Quick Road in Boston Township. Wear sturdy boots and bring a small pack with lunch, water and work gloves. 330-725-6097.

Firestone hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 4 p.m. for a leisurely 3-mile hike at Firestone Metro Park. Meet in the Tuscarawas Meadows Area off Harrington Road in South Akron. 330-923-6371.

Wednesday

Trail cleanup — Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Lake and Cross Country trails in Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Meet at the Kendall Lake Shelter parking lot off Truxell Road in Boston Township. Wear sturdy boots and bring a small pack with lunch, water and work gloves. 330-688-1767.

Green hike — The Akron Metro Parks Hiking Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. for a 5-mile in Green’s Boettler/Southgate Park on Massillon Road (state Route 241). Bring carrots or apples for the horses. 330-923-6371.
