As if chef David Russo weren't busy enough with Russo's Restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls, he has a new casual dining spot in Kent inside the Water Street Tavern.
Cajun Dave's recently opened in the bar and will serve plenty of the New Orleans cuisine for which Russo is known. The menu is brimming with po' boys, jambalaya, gumbo and crawfish, as well as some traditional casual bar fare.
Managing the eatery is Brian Bower, who spent nine years working in South Carolina restaurants.
Cajun Dave's, at 138 S. Water St., opens every day at 4 p.m. There also is a carryout window for quick pickups. Call 330-474-0800.
Good eats
There will be lots of food on the square in Wooster on Friday, when the city hosts its first Artfully Delicious event.
Fifteen Wooster-area independent restaurants will set up on Public Square for a food and wine festival sponsored by Main Street Wooster and the Wayne Center for the Arts. The eating will commence at 5:30 p.m. and continue to 8:30 p.m.
Admission is free. Tickets for food and beverage tastings will be sold in $1 increments. There also will be art on display, art demonstrations, live music and children's activities.
Artfully Delicious is part of three days of community events in Wooster to celebrate July Fourth.
Hello, cupcake
Main Street Cupcakes of Hudson is selling gourmet cupcakes on the Home Shopping Network.
Look for spots to air today and Thursday, when it will be selling a summer collection of cupcakes, including mojito, root beer float and pink lemonade flavors. The specialty baker is scheduled to be featured on the network several more times through the rest of the year.
Main Street Cupcakes, at 238 N. Main St., offers 170 varieties of cupcakes. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It's closed on Mondays. Call 330-342-0833 or visit http://www.mainstreetcupcakes.com for information.
A little bit of Italy
Wine fans, an event coming to the Civic Theatre in downtown Akron will take you back to Italy.
Vino Italia: An Italian Wine and Food Tasting is set for 6 to 8:45 p.m. July 11. More than 40 Italian wines will be available for sampling, with food prepared by Vaccaro's Trattoria, Big City Chop House, Moe's Restaurant and others.
Tickets are $50, or $60 for VIP tickets, which include reserved seats at the 9 p.m. Rat Pack show at Lock 3 Park downtown. Proceeds benefit Italian-American scholarships, St. Anthony's Parish and Interval Brotherhood Home.

Get grillin'
The Yusef-Kahn Grotto will hold its fifth annual Great Grotto Grill-Off from 2 to 9 p.m. July 11 at Grotto Park, 619 Northwest Ave., Tallmadge.
There will be live music, ribs, chicken, french fries, corn, beverages and desserts.
The highlight of the day is a grilling competition, with a $100 first prize in each of two categories — ages 15 and under, and 16 and up. There also will be a karaoke competition with cash prizes.
Admission is free. A portion of the proceeds from the festival will benefit United Disability Services. To enter the contests or for information, call 330-928-3162.

I can't wait to try Cajun Dave's. I was just talking to someone last week about how there's not any great Cajun restaurants around Akron. My husband's never had gumbo so we've got to try it.

The Jambalaya is AWESOME. Just had it the other day and I might go back and get some tonight. They also have these special fries that are a meal in itself.

We went on Wednesday, had a great meal, and went again during the Heritage Fest on Saturday and had an even better time! The Gumbo, Jambalaya and other Cajun dishes are great as always, but what I think deserves notice here is the "common" items like burgers and pizza are the best around. Just like Russo's on State Road, everything's so flavorful. You can find these items anyhere but they really are already the best in town!
The bar is really nice- lots of good beers and a nice staff. They had 2 great bands on Saturday and didn't charge a cover.
