Ask Lisa: Rabbit is widely available in Akron area

By Lisa Abraham
Beacon Journal food writer

Q.: Where can I buy dressed rabbit in the Akron area? I’ve been hungry for rabbit stew.

— Dortha Jessop, Copley Township

A.: Rabbit isn’t hard to find. Most of the area’s specialty butcher shops carry it.

At the West Point Market in Akron and Leach’s Meats & Sweets in Barberton, you’ll find it frozen. Kirbie’s Meats & Catering in Stow gets fresh rabbit in once a month. Butchers dress it and freeze it on site and nearly always have it in stock.

DiFeo & Sons Poultry in Akron gets six fresh rabbits in every Wednesday morning. The shop advises calling first to ensure there is still one in stock, particularly if you want it later in the week.

Got a food question? Lisa Abraham has the answer. Call 330-996-3737; email her at labraham@thebeaconjournal.com with “Ask Lisa” in the subject line; or write to her at 44 E. Exchange St., P.O. Box 640, Akron, OH 44309-0640. Please include your name (initials will be printed on request), hometown and phone number.
