Insurer hires hospital executive

By Cheryl Powell
Beacon Journal medical writer

A high-ranking Akron Children's Hospital administrator recently left to take a similar role at Medical Mutual of Ohio.

The Cleveland-based insurance company named Dennis Jancsy its new executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective this month.

He replaces Sue Tyler, who now is serving as Medical Mutual's chief experience officer, a role which oversees financial administration, membership and claims and customer service.

Before taking on his new role, Jancsy served as chief financial officer at Akron Children's Hospital since 2006.

Akron Children's Vice President Mike Trainer is serving as the hospital's interim chief financial officer until Jancsy's replacement is named.

Medical Mutual is one of the largest private health insurance companies in Ohio, with about 1.6 million enrollees.

In his new role, Jancsy is responsible for overseeing Medical Mutual's finance, treasury, facilities and administration and human resources departments.

The insurer has about $2 billion in annual revenue.

Jancsy previously worked with Medical Mutual from 2002 through 2005 as an audit partner with Ernst & Young.

Before that, he was chief financial officer of Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland.

Jancsy earned his bachelor and master of business administration degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

He and his wife reside in Brecksville and have two grown sons.

Medical Mutual also recently promoted George Stadtlander to the newly created role of executive vice president and chief managed care officer.

Stadtlander joined Medical Mutual in 1986. He has been the insurer's vice president of individual group sales since 2007.
