Local history: Beheaded statue a guardian of Peninsula folklore
A decapitated statue of a Union soldier tops a Civil War memorial at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peninsula in July 1933. The memorial was damaged a year earlier when a car crashed into it at the present-day intersection of Route 303 and Riverview Road. The head was stolen. (Akron Beacon Journal file photo)
