Samples of materials such as wallpaper, carpet and glass will be given new life as art supplies during ZeroLandfill Akron, scheduled for Saturdays in February at a new location, 21 W. North St.
The program collects old material samples from interior designers, architects, graphic designers and others. It then makes them available free to artists and art educators for use in their work.
Donations of materials are being accepted from 9 a.m. to noon today and Feb. 9. They’re available for the taking during the same hours Feb. 9, 16 and 23.

Used books for sale
Gently used books on home improvement, woodworking, decorating and gardening are offered for sale during the Home & Garden Book Sale all this month at the Library Shop on Main in downtown Akron.
Next week, specially marked books will be half price from Tuesday through Thursday.
The shop is in the Akron-Summit County Main Library, 60 S. High St. It’s open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 1 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

Guide for homebuyers
The Ohio State University Extension has a Homebuyer’s Guide to walk you through the process. It covers topics including the pros and cons of homeownership, types of mortgages, basic home maintenance and options to pursue if changing circumstances make it difficult to make mortgage payments.
The guide can be downloaded in PDF form for $5 at http://estore.osu-extension.org, or a printed copy can be ordered at the site for $9.75 plus shipping. The guide can also be purchased at OSU Extension offices.
