New Medina educator

Ashley Kulhanek has joined the Ohio State University Extension in Medina County as its agricultural educator.

Kulhanek, of Liverpool Township, will help homeowners, farmers, business leaders and others achieve better results in their lawns, gardens and fields. Her areas of specialization are fruits, vegetables and entomology, the study of insects.

Among her duties will be providing pesticide training for farmers, working with the master gardener volunteers and helping to organize the Medina Farmers Market. She hopes to introduce community gardens and work with backyard gardeners on safe food handling.

Kulhanek is a graduate of Buckeye High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Baldwin-Wallace University and a master’s in entomology from Ohio State. She previously taught proper handling and safety practices to fruit and vegetable producers at the OSU’s Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center in Wooster Township.

She replaced Mike Miller, who retired after 36 years with the extension.
