Opportunities abound in the coming weeks to learn more about orchids or enjoy their beauty.
Cleveland Botanical Garden’s annual orchid festival, Orchid Mania, opens Tuesday and features thousands of orchids in bloom along with orchid-growing information. Special events include Ask the Orchid Doctor sessions from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 9 and 23 and March 2 and 9, as well the Greater Cleveland Orchid Society Show and Sale on Feb. 16 and 17.
Evening hours have been added on Wednesdays and Fridays during Orchid Mania, which ends March 10.
Orchid Mania is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays; and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is $9.50, $4 for children ages 3 to 12. Members and younger children are admitted free.
Cleveland Botanical Garden is at 11030 East Blvd. in Cleveland’s University Circle.
Closer to home, the Greater Akron Orchid Society will present Growing Orchids in Your Home at 11 a.m. Feb. 9 at Donzell’s Flower & Garden Center, 937 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.
The program is free, but participants need to register in advance by calling 330-724-0550, ext. 110.
The society will also hold its 12th annual Spring Orchid Show on March 2 and 3 at Donzell’s. Unusual orchids will be exhibited at the judged show, and vendors will sell orchids and supplies.
Show hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 2 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 3, and admission is free.
