People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

Akron Bible Church Baskets of Love, 783 Brown St., Akron, OH 44311, is a year-round emergency food pantry with a Christmas outreach that will distribute 1,000 food baskets and toys to 100 families this year. It is seeking the following:
• Donations of money, turkeys and gift cards for teens and pre-teens, as well as refrigerators and freezers for the food pantry. Donations may be dropped off at the church between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays. Donors may also call 330-319-1922 to request pickup or arrange a more convenient drop-off time.
• Volunteers to help pack and deliver food baskets and toys.
• Volunteers to help serve hot lunches to the needy from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at Hope Cafe, 335 E. South St., Akron.
• Donations of paper products, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, aluminum pans, napkins, plastic cutlery, pans, kitchen implements. dish liquid, kitchen towels, oven mitts, sugar, flour and spices for the hot lunch program. Donations may be dropped off at the church between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.
Projectcomfort77 is a volunteer group that makes fleece blankets for terminally ill children and children of military personnel serving away from their families at Christmas time, and for Summit County sheriff’s deputies to give to children in distress,
The organization is seeking donations of colorful fleece, preferably Blizzard fleece, as well as contributions of either money or Jo-Ann store gift cards to buy fleece. The group will also accept donations of blankets, but they must be double fleece.
