People Helping People is a list of charitable causes in our area that need donations or volunteers. The Beacon Journal has not investigated these causes, so donors should verify their worthiness and the tax-deductibility of contributions.

GASP (Guardians Advocating Child Safety and Protection), 53 University Ave., Fourth Floor, Akron, OH 44308, strives to provide a safer environment for children by delivering free programs to protect them from sexual offenses, abuse, abduction and other dangerous situations.
GASP is seeking monetary donations, which can be made at www.gaspohio.org.
It is also seeking volunteers to help with its many activities, including fingerprinting children, observing at sex offender trials and sentencings, educating children and adults and volunteering on search and rescue operations. Volunteer applications can be downloaded on the website. All volunteers must have a background check.

David’s House, P.O. Box 26601, Akron, OH 44319, helps homeless youth and provides opportunities for them to learn life skills.
It is seeking the following:
• Donations of grocery store or department gift cards.
• Monetary donations to help pay for shelter, utilities and food and clothing provided to each youth.
• Donation of a storage unit and a good, running vehicle for its mission.
• Volunteers to send greeting cards to youth who have lost parents to cancer.
